Living in Mexico, we had no idea this yummy squash existed, the only and most commonly sold summer squash is 'la calabacita verde' which looks like a tender zucchini, so we bought a couple of butternut squash and the way we prepared them was making them into a veggie cream soup, SO GOOD, usually we toast the seeds and eat them BUT not this time saved the seeds for planting this year's season, hoping they do well here, the summer season is the rainy season, from mid-May to September, had no idea how to care for them, but thanks to you dear lady, I now know a bit of how to grow and care for them. Greetings from Mexico to your family and you! :)

You’re living in japan ! I’m in Shizuoka and about to start butternut squash here and didn’t have any knowledge about how to grow them, especially here !! Wow 😳 this is great thank you
  • My wife just made Butternut Squash soup - delicious and packed with some serious nutrients! I just saved some seeds and will plant next spring in our new garden. Thank you for spending the time in explaining the steps - (yes - I had butternut squash sliced in half and added brown sugar - amazingly good!)

I peel and cut it into cubes, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle generously with a mixture of equal parts cumin, pepper, garlic powder, smoked paprika and chipotle chili powder. Roast until tender then serve on chopped, massaged kale with goat cheese, toasted pepita's and an apricot vinaigrette. So yummy. My first butternut plant is still tiny with no female flowers yet. We've been fighting the dreaded vine borer. 😤 Got 2 months until first frost, so fingers crossed!

Thank you for the great video! Growing in NC. The trellis and pollination was very helpful. Love making butternut squash bisque. There are a lot of good recipes on the internet for that, but I like using ginger, garlic and nutmeg with creme.

My favourite recipe is half a butternut squash, diced, a large tin of kidney beans, small tin of sweetcorn, a cup or so of water and a couple of squares of dark chocolate. Bring to the boil and then simmer for about 20 minutes, delicious. I believe it's based on an old Aztec recipe. Great in winter.

Thanks for this video, it was very informative. I live in the Caribbean and I’ve just started growing some in my garden, it was good to know you have them in pots and not into the ground. Thanks again I’ve learnt a lot from your video.
