Hi Sam, since I'm an amateur working in art journals of all kinds and sizes, this is really good for me to see your art journal. Since beginning my journey in a beautiful Strathmore watercolour journal, it is really difficult for me to like any mixed media paper. It has such a thin soggy feel to it whenever I've used it. I agree though, it is cheap and it is easy to try things out on. One youtuber uses the Canson XL mixed media journal for most of her projects which I get because she does so many that she needs a lot of cheaper paper. I purchased one of those on her suggestion and I don't love it, but the size is great. I have discovered that it is great to have many different shapes and sizes to work in. I prefer a journal without the coils, but it just adds to the experience of creating in a journal with and without, so I guess it changes the feel and process of creating which isn't a bad thing just a different challenge. I also like how you dated the inside of the journal and I never thought of writing the start and end date - thanks for that tip! I also discovered that I have no patience whatsoever for watercolour, but I like to have some around just to dabble with when needed, but I have no intension of learning the proper way to use them because that doesn't "spark joy".LOL
  • Hi Sam! I haven't used this paper before and I probably won't either. I'm doing color thumbnails for a collage piece.

Now I can't remember if friend you mentioned in 4:00 was me or someone else since I've also tried mixing chalk pastels with water... Hmmmm... But it's the wonders of 2018 when I didn't know gum arabic existed and is better to use as pigment binder for watercolours. Seeing all this art hits me with nostalgia. Was it really almoast 3 years?!

My second comment/question... Is it ok to use watercolour without doing it "properly"? It is an easy medium when you just dive in and don't follow any formal technique. What are your true thoughts on the subject and do you think that many people actually use watercolour without paying attention to the rules?
