  • In order of trailers: 1.0: - This was for the original version of the game that later got scrapped. - Those cards they were choosing between are essentially job listings for adventurers. - No, the player character doesn't talk, that was just a one off thing they did in this trailer. ARR: - When they scrapped 1.0 and transitioned to ARR they did it by spending the final months of 1.0 building up to one of the world's two moons getting closer and closer until eventually the events of this trailer happened. This came out the moment the 1.0 servers went down as a final send off before becoming the trailer for ARR. - The elezen mage that tried to hold off the dragon, Louisoix, is also the narrator for the in game intro to ARR. When you first start the game a lot of npcs will talk about the calamity 5 years ago and the warriors of light that fought valiantly against it, and how for some reason no one can remember their names or faces anymore. Those warriors of light are the players characters of 1.0. Heavensward: - Not gonna touch on any questions about the flashback sequence as that entire part is MASSIVE spoilers for ARR and really shouldn't have been in the trailer. All the trailers since this have been very good about avoiding story spoilers and only teasing at pretty early plot points for their respective expansions. - Dragoons were already in the game before this expansion, but every expansion has a poster boy class that the placeholder main character that represents the player (lovingly referred to as Meteor or Derplander) changes to for the expansion. In the 1.0 trailer he was an Archer, in ARR he was a Warrior, and for Heavensward he switches to Dragoon. Stormblood: - The woman at the beginning is actually a Monk, as is Meteor for that portion of the trailer. Dancer is also a playable class and does match that aesthetic but wasn't added until Shadowbringers. - In the second half Meteor is indeed now a Samurai, one of the two dps jobs added in this expansion and generally the highest damage melee class in the game when played well. Shadowbringers: - Yes, the player character is a warrior of light, just like the player characters of 1.0 are referred to as in ARR. It's hardly a spoiler to say that the "future sight" thing is called the Echo, but at least as of ARR onward it can't see the future and rather let's you see the past, usually through others' memories. - When Meteor is switching classes throughout the fight, yes it's representing what we can play because that's what he's there for, but it's specifically transitioning through all of his previous classes in order and one by one they are all defeated by his enemy until he switches to Dark Knight. Like Dragoon in HW, Dark Knight was not new to this expansion but was the poster boy class for reasons the title makes obvious. Also the way he changes class is almost one to one of how that works in the game since you can level every single job in the game on a single character and freely swap between them by switching your weapon out. You just can't do it mid combat like he is here. - You are not tripping, that is a gunblade, and there is a gunblade class. Gunbreaker is a tank class with a gunblade that got added in this expansion along with Dancer. - DO NOT skip through the story to get to the expansions! Every expansion builds on the previous ones and skipping the story will make the expansion story fall flat for you and ruin the whole experience. There are callbacks constantly. Endwalker: - They went in on the trailer for this one because this expansion is the climactic finale of the overarching story that runs from ARR through all the previous expansions. Throughout the trailer it actually transitions between theme music from previous expansions in order. Dawntrail: - Dual swords since when? Since now lol. It's Viper, one of the two new dps jobs coming in this expansion, the other being the painter they showed called Pictomancer. - Saying this has summer update vibes isn't far off. They've called the trip we're about to go on a summer vacation for the WoL, and since this is the beginning of a brand new story arc after Endwalker ended the last 10 year story they seem to be starting things on a lighter note. - Regarding the buff cat lady, she's a Hrothgar and the thing that's new is that we're going to be able to make female Hrothgar now. They were added in Shadowbringers as a male only playable race, as well as the bunny girls (Viera) being a female only playable race. In Endwalker we got bunny boys and with Dawntrail they're finally completing the set. - The graphics thing you probably heard people complain about was the benchmark test they just released so that people could run a sample of the upcoming new graphics update on their computer to test their hardware. There were a few small oversights with scene lighting and slight character model bugs that people want sorted out which SE have already made a statement apologizing for and saying they'll update the benchmark. As a whole the upcoming graphics update is going to be a major positive and looks fantastic.
  • You've summoned the fandom. We enjoy watching other people react to the story. There's some pretty emotional moments.
  • @DXDragon38
46:02 "Final Fantasy x Monster Hunter, when?" This is actually already a thing! In FF14, you can fight Rathalos, and get it as a Mount, as well as some MHW Gear. In Monster Hunter World, you can fight the FF14 Behemoth and get some Dragoon gear.
  • Here's one specific advice if you ever start playing... DO NOT skip the story, it's arguably THE most important part of the game and believe me... once you'll reach the end of your journey, it'll pay off, Tenfold. Other than that, just enjoy the game and do not hesitate to ask for help, people in-game are SUPER nice and will always try to help newcomers, in fact FFXIV is known for its ridiculously friendly community, while WoW's is infamous for being Toxic
  • WoW is an MMORPG - A multiplayer game with some story content. FF14 is a RPGMMO - A narrative focused RPG that can be played co-op.
  • Blaze... the best part about FFXIV? You can play ALL JOBS, ALL CLASSES, ALL CRAFTING CLASSES... on one character. It's just a matter of changing main hand weapons and tools.
  • @ninjaone1
It's always so nice to watch someone who has experience with the series watch these.
  • @Mauvias92
As someone who has played since ff14 1.0, the biggest hurtle, in my opinion, is getting through a realm reborn, but it's 1000% worth it to take your time getting through the story.
  • right after he sees primals blasting out of the sky, he asks "Did he just see into the future?" you have no idea
  • Glad you're checking out the game. As someone who played Final Fantasy games, you are going to ABSOLUTELY enjoy your journey. There are so many references. Please do not skip ahead. Considering you say you're very much into story in games, you need the experience of the beginning in order to enjoy the end.
  • Listen, if you play, I'm absolutely following your journey. I've been playing for nearly 2 years and I'm always finding new things to do, lore to dive into. In general, my experience with the game and the community has been great. My only advice is to go at your pace and really take the story in.
  • fun fact: ffxiv has a monster hunter collab!!! You have to get to a certain point in game(stormblood) to do the quest! I love ff14 and a big part of why I love it is the community. They are very welcoming and I have made some life long friends out of it. I have social anxiety and would have moments where I freak out/ have an anxiety attack and the people I was playing with were so understanding. They allowed me to take my time and helped me with moments I was stuck at (stuck meaning waiting for other players). Even though I've now done most of the content I still log on daily and help others in the same predicament. I defiantly recommend playing it.
  • "It was like a big reset" is so accurate. They took down the servers and remade the game from almost the ground up. Yoshi P came in and was like 'nah, I can't fix this. Burn it.'
  • Ahhhh, my beloved FFXIV! I started the game about 2 years ago, and I loved it from the moment the game opened up! Fun fact: the second trailer is actually an in game event that happened before they shut the servers down. Players that were on before the servers shut down actually saw that moon descending closer and closer down to their world. And when the servers shut down, that exact cinamatic played. They shut the servers down because they completely re worked the game, and then FFXIV: A Realm Reborn came to be! Edits as I watched the video 28:18 yes! There is a Dancer and Samurai class! Both are DPS with dancer being a ranged support DPS and Samurai being a melee high damage class. 31:32 yup! Your character is the Warrior of Light and Darkness(Darkness coming after the Shadowbringers expansion) 32:10 yup! Every single expansion is a continuous story, with the saga ending in Endwalker. They made a story pretty much out of resetting the game! Dawntrail is the new expansion that will be coming out in June, which will introduce a new one! 34:42 yup! Same person 35:10 yes, siiiiir! 😄 35:24 yup! There is a gun blade class which is a tank class called Gunbreaker 37:42 no! Don’t skip any of the story, because as I said before, it’s a continuous story. If you skip any of it, you’ll be lost when you get to later expansions 47:47 yes! That is a new class coming out in Dawntrail called Viper. It will be a melee DPS class 48:28 yup! That is another new class coming out in Dawntrail called Pictomancer! Which will be a ranged magical DPS class! 50:52 that’s very fair, something I also really appreciate about WoW is how anatomically different each race is. It really separates each race from each other. But it is also a cultural thing. As FFXIV was made in Japan, there is a trope called Kemonomimi in Japan that is used for any human-animal hybrids. So while WoW goes all out anthropomorphic animal like races (I.e Worgan, Tauren), FFXIV sticks to humans, but with cat ears and a tail or bunny ears. While WoW was made in the west, where that kind of trope is not very common in western media
  • Having spent YEARS on WoW, I absolutely fell in love with FFXIV. Both are great in their own ways, but the story of 14 is just so captivating as you progress further into the story.
  • FFXIV story is absolutely amazing, but keep in my it still has all of the trappings of an mmorpg. Don't be afraid to skip a fetch quest here or there, but do watch all the cutscenes and read the major dialogue. Payoffs can extend across multiple expansions and guaranttee you that cathartic feeling you're looking for in a story. Once you get rolling you won't want to stop. In the end, you'll be able to look back fondly on your adventure and say that the journey was worth it :)
  • Ive never clicked a video so fast in my life! Holy shit, I'm so happy youve taken the time to watch these trailers! Lore in FF14 is suuuper deep/heavy, like deep fried chocolate shake heavy, all of the events in the trailers become more clearer as you play through the story so dont worry about being confused especially with Shadowbringers and Endwalker! If you are to stream the game, i recommend it its pretty fun and exciting. Although if you do, have follow/sub mode on to prevent people from spoiling anything. Yes there are people like that unfortunately. Yes Samurai and Gunbreaker classes are super dope! And hell yes! The music and trailers is top tier! Tbh theres a lot of content to go through and its a super good time! Can't wait to play with you my dude! I'll be in the Cactar server!
  • "man Final fantasy need to do a collab" Yeah they did it, in 14, you even face rathlos "like a whole game" oh.
