the "goth" or "emo" aesthetic is meaningless now. It's little more than a character that people dress up as or aspire to be. I was never any of that stuff, but it doesn't take a genius to recognize how hollow the concept has become. It's just what's sexy right now and everybody wants to be considered cool and/or attractive, but people don't really understand what these cultures actually were. When all this stuff blows over a decade or two from now, you'll see everyone get over it super quickly and move onto whatever form is trendy and popular. I'm not even saying that I particularly miss the OG goths, I'm just saying that this whole "goth/emo" resurgence is a thinly veiled effort to be "young and hot" Fuck all that shit. Goths did the opposite of popular, they listened and dressed and acted totally differently than what was trendy at the time. Now that their look has been co-opted, the new "counter culture" is made up of people who aren't trying to be popular or follow trends, as usual. Everyone is trying to be someone else.
