Sara Blakely is the founder and CEO of SPANX, Inc. Spanx is known for inventing smarter, more comfortable products for women including bras, apparel, undies, and, of course, shapewear. Sara was selected as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the world and has been featured on the cover of countless magazines. In support of her mission to empower women, Sara created The Spanx by Sara Blakely Foundation. She committed to donating half of her wealth to charity. Today, Sara still owns 100% of the company and has never taken outside investments.

Author and entrepreneur Jesse Itzler only eats fruit ’til noon loves the hip-hop group Run-D.M.C., and enjoys living life “out of the box.” He’s the author of the New York Times bestseller, Living with a Seal, and he co-founded Marquis Jet, the world’s largest private jet company in which he and his partner sold to Berkshire Hathaway/NetJets. Jesse then partnered with Zico coconut water, which he and his partner sold to The Coca-Cola Company. When he’s not running ultra-marathons, eating vegan food, or being a dad to his four kids, Jesse can be found at the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks games, where he’s an owner of the team. He is married to Spanx founder Sara Blakely.

YESSS Sara Blakely is my entrepreneur boss lady spirit animal 💃🙌😍
  • What a great episode!! The fact that you knew them really added to the interview. Some takeaways: 1) Having similar values is the building blocks of their successful marriage (e.g. they have differences in what they think their kids should/shouldn't eat specifically, but they have the common goal of wanting their kids to eat healthy and were able to build from that foundation.) 2) An important entrepreneurial skill to build/hone at this time is selling, including how to sell yourself! (Sara Blakely gives great advice at 30:39). Sara herself started out as a fax machine seller and learned many important lessons that she then applied to her now billion-dolla company, Spanx. 3) As a women, it is powerful seeing that Sara Blakely was able to create a successful business and find a partner who supports, respects, and even looks up to her (as he mentions in the interview). She has also managed to raise a family (4 kids) all while sticking to values that are really important to her - kindness, giving, humility, gratitude, valuing relationships, and so on. Thank you Lewis for a wonderful episode!
  • The best representatives of billionaires I’ve seen yet. What a wonderful couple and great advice right to the end. Some of the advice was noticed without a word needing to be said. Thank you

The more I hear from them, The more hope I have for this world, we need more people like them! So honest, unpretentious, lovely humans. Thank you for this interview Lewis.
  • @acfitweightloss
That last sentence sums her up perfectly, putting the shine back on Lewis and acknowledging him after he said nice things about her, not just taking the praise. Awesome couple!
  • @ZylerKade
Love the part where he mentions to her that he needed 2 hours alone. This is something that's been super helpful for me and my spouse as well. I used to get aggravated when I'd be working in my office and get interrupted. But once I started communicating that it was important for me to have uninterrupted work time while working at home, its done wonders!

My favourite couple. One thing I learnt from Jessee that he didn't mention today is that " You are never too tired for your kids" My parenting mantra! You both inspire me too much

I’m so happy I took the time to listen to this interview. Amazing couple! Lots of lessons. Many of their principles I share with my husband as well. The number one lesson from Sarah for me was “ Hire your weaknesses’. This was an Aha moment as I always try to battle my weaknesses and end up not having the time or energy to build up my strengths. Thank you so much Lewis for making these interviews and sharing them with us. 🙏

I think Jesse is very brave, he is willing to break the 'identity', constantly evolving himself in different industry. I can truly relate to him.

  • @FopsyTheGreat
So many amazing things to take away from them! It’s so true what Jesse said . It’s amazing when a partner really cares about you and shows it. It makes you want to mirror the same energy. ❤️
