On the war memorial is a plaque to a young Cornish merchant sailor, Davey Hawkins. In 1982, during the Falklands war, he saved my life. He managed to get me out of a compartment on board our ship when I couldn't manage it due to my wounds. Unfortunately, Davey never made it home. He was lost that day. In 1996 I moved to Newquay so I could visit his memorial as often as I could. Thank you, young man. Your sacrifice allowed me to live.

Hat's off to Chris for his rapid adaption to UK roads. He's even cracked the Cornish ones, where you basically have to use the force to know what speed to drive and what is coming around the bend next.

Unconsciously apologising, Jess Youโ€™re becoming more British without realising it ๐Ÿ˜‚
  • St. Michael's mount near Penzance and the Minack theatre near Land's End (right below the Minack is Porthcurnow where the first transatlantic telephone cables were connected). Rough Tor and Brown Willy on Bodmin moor.
  • Thanks for the video. An enjoyable view of parts of Cornwall. York and Whitby are CRYING OUT for you to visit.

Hi Jess, Chris & family. What is great to see is how willing you are to use your UK time to see and experience as much as you can of our country and culture. In years to come, this vlog will serve as a memory of your time across the pond. For all of your UK fans, it is to be hoped that the vlog continues when you are back stateside and you have your very own farm. Thank you for brightening my Sunday.

And Chris has really mastered driving in the countryside, very well done

If you're close enough you must visit Slapton Sands on the coast of Devon to see the memorial to the many hundreds ( nearly a thousand) young American servicemen that died there during an invasion training exercise in April 1944 just 2 months before D day .
  • @jelofts
I do admire your "joie de vivre" which comes through in all your videos.
  • So glad you made it to Cornwall. One of my favourite places in the UK. I especially love the fisihing village of Mevagissey and nearby Charlestown on the South Coast. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ‘
  • @Dave.Thatcher1
You've seen more of the UK than I as a native have done in the last 77 years..๐Ÿ˜
  • A trip to the Minack outdoor theatre is a must on the cliff hand built by 1 lady
  • That caravan tour Jess takes me right back to my childhood, we used to holiday in Cornwall all the time as kids, such great memories. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
  • @graeradt
Jess would absolutely love the Eden Project
  • Perfect driving Chris. You should visit the Lake District, my neck of the woods. They bought their roads in the same yard sale that Cornwall bought theirs.

Beautiful spot - I love the sea/ocean. The drone shots at the end were quite stunning! If you ever head north again, I would suggest the Yorkshire Dale's, or the North Pennines - both outstandingly breathtaking landscapes and some lovely drives for you. Thanks for another great vid Jess, Chris and family.

One of your best videos to date. Cornwall is indeed stunning. I lived there for a few years and know it well. Home for me is now Edinburgh, Scotland...another stunning place. Anyhow, I loved the tour of the cyder factory and Chris's drone footage. The narrow lanes reminded me of how nerve wracking it was negotiating them with all their blind bends. Oh yes, the caravan looked super cosy and with every thing one could need on vacation. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. It really is enjoyable escapism.

The Lizard may look pretty on a summer's day, but in the days of sailing ships this finger of land projecting into the Channel was often the first landfall after an Atlantic crossing. In fog or stormy weather before powerful engines and radar eased the sailors' lot thousands of ships have been wrecked here over the centuries and many thousands of seafarers lost.
  • GLAD YOU LIKED OUR COUNTY Jess & chris ,,so much to see in cornwall ,,thanks for all your good comments ,,PROPER JOB as we say in cornwall
  • @fleabiter
great driving by the way. When I'm in narrow roads like that I keep a mental note of every passing point I passed and how far back it is. helps me decide if I should concede or stand my ground
