How long does it take a player COMPLETELY NEW to Traditional Fighting Games to reach the Highest Floor in Guilty Gear Strive? This is the exact question I asked myself after becoming the number 1 ranked player in the world...

Arc System Works (Arcsys) has recently made Guilty Gear Strive, the latest entry in the Guilty Gear franchise! This fighting game is heralded for its use of Rollback Netcode, included on all platforms Playstation 4 (PS4), Playstation 5 (PS5), and PC (Steam). Recently Arcsys has released it's latest season pass 2, alongside a brand new balance patch for the Game!

I feel this so hard as somebody who basically bounces between the celestial challenge and floor 9 all the time with Gio. But this Video is a really motivation to get into celestial with Season 2.

"ANYONE can learn Fighting Games." starts with someone who already plays fighting games
  • I can definitely understand how demotivating it feels to fail the celestial challenge. The grind from floors 4 - 10 was a pretty steady easy climb from my experience but the grind from floor 10 to celestial felt like climbing a mountain. It took me 3 long months of bouncing between floors 8 -10 before I finally broke through to celestial. I can totally understand why some people wouldn't have the patience to go through that. As much as I love this game the ranking system can be very tilting and demoralizing.
  • As someone who bought strive like a month ago, started playing Giovanna and had the same issues, as a pretty decent smash player, this video is fucking useful and inspiring! Good job
  • I can only admire this man, that come so far in one month, even if he's dropped the game. For the last 3 days I played DNF Duel and played about 150 matches and won about 10, maybe 15 at best. Even with simple mechanics, I just can't use my brain and hands to do right things. Even spending time in tutorials in a real match I'm starting to panic and just mash all the buttons. Yeah, in 150 games I managed to remember something and even could do some combos. They were dumb, but I did them. But one misstep and here I am again, being wiped on the whole floor. Yeah, I did some damage, but on the end I just lose and lose again and again. These 3 days were agonizingly depressing. And this man in a week learned so much. Yeah, he's being coached but still. Hope one day I can learn to play even as half good as he is.

Thank you for featuring me in the video at the end Akaraien! I'm happy I was able to contribute in a small way. I learned a lot from your coaching and just by watching your games on YouTube. It gave me fresh perspective on not just Gio but also on fighting games as a whole genre. Coaching isn't just about technical knowledge. Sometimes, it's also about motivation and morale-boosting. It reminds you that this is supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be enjoyed with others. That's what I love about coaching. Right now, I'm able to challenge on the Celestial Floor but I KNOW I have a lot to learn. I'm looking forward to it :)

I understand the frustration of your student, when I started playing guilty gear and was defeated many times in the celestial, at that time I had been playing for 3 months, but after practicing a lot I managed to do it and last month I was in the top 100 with only Gio in the celestial room, it's not much but you have to start with small goals. Great video
  • @ozi-g-be
this is one of the most satisfying videos i have ever watched omg even if he didn't reach celestial, he got that good in his first fighting game in just a month that's insane, gave me goosebumps to see him baiting burst and other things fantastic video
  • @TheAnimator54
This was super well edited man! And clean transition into the ad haha.
  • @cmapascual
This is absolutely killer content. Been watching your streams lately so I know your skills are top caliber but your ability to articulate concepts is insane as well. This type of stuff pushes the scene forward. Bravo!
  • Great video, great twist at the end, so relatable. I need a coach lol
  • @afroshima492
So this video has motivated me to start my climb up the tower and I appreciate you heavily. Im new to fighting games but you and GekkoSquirrel motivated me to dedicate time into this and have finally gotten up my first 2 floor rank ups. Thank you for the amazing content
  • @veracaelestis
honestly Akaraien you've been super motivational for my grind to celestial, I started really improving a lot in the last few weeks and whenever I have match up issues I usually go find a clip where you're playing to see how you handle the tools and to learn what I can do better in my matches. I love incorporating the Akaraien special into my bombo's and have made my friends genuinely fear it. Thanks for the videos you make and being a guiding beacon for all us Gio mains!!!

Nice. I never got into fighting games, it looks way too much a commitment for a working man like me. Maybe someday.
  • I've always felt I've needed a coach to help me get over this mental block I always hit when I play fighting games. I've been playing them since SFII in the 90s and I've always been a very scrubby low skill player and never figured out how to get past that. There are so many concepts I try and read about, or watch videos but I just don't always learn very well that way. I don't know a single other person in real life that plays fighting games and I don't really learn much from getting beat online by a stranger who I can't even interact with. I can watch all the videos about RC and combo paths on all of youtube but I just never really do it right myself. I don't get any help or feedback from playing CPU, spending any time in training mode, or losing to strangers online so I never feel like I improve, I always feel like I practice wrong and it usually ends up feeling like I dont even have the ability to get better. I know I need to keep trying and just play more, playing more and more is the best thing to do but I get discouraged easily and have no one I know IRL or online to play with or motivate me to stick with it.

Love the production on this one, man, sick video, I enjoyed it!

im trying to get back into strive after getting burnt out a while back. this is my first fighter at all. i dont have the time for proper coaching so ive had to learn to enjoy the game at a much slower pace - what got me burnt out in the first place is how overwhelming it was and just feeling like every guide was starting at a baseline 2 miles above where i was. im still not confident enough to play a public match after a 5 month break, and i spend most of my time in the game just grinding out combos in the practice range. coming back to strive has really shown me the depth and beauty in fighting games and this is something im going to stick with, but trying to teach myself this game is a huge task and i have a very long road ahead. if theres nothing else keeping me committed, its the attitude this community has towards growth

Seeing him quit made me sad. He was so close to his goal but let angry and frustrated get to him. I could only think of one speech to help him push forward "Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky.

Honestly this video is making me want to play Strive and learn a fighting game, I've always just button mashed and really don't know anything about them. This was very interesting.
