☝🤓 Uhmm actually Biomes O' Plenty was a thing even before 1.7.10 and 2015. On the official github you can find (albeit expired) links to versions for mc down to 1.5.2 and on mcarchive there are archived versions for 1.3.2 - 1.4.7

I'm assuming you weren't there for the older versions. But fot context, the bamboo grove was made before Minecraft officially added bamboo to the game. I'm surprised he even kept the biome around considering how much the dev loves cutting legitimately cool content

"How am I supposed to make porriage in minecraft now, huh?" "Unfortunately, despite the name, the marsh does not contain marshmallows...aww..." "The oats CANNOT be eaten!" This man is just hungry. Somebody donate to feed this poor boy already.

BOP's a very mixed bag, I have about a third of the biomes disabled due to how forgettable they are. It used to have some really cool biomes and some even had unique mechanics, but BOP removed it all to make every biome uniform. I've heard it said that the mod wants to be more like vanilla Minecraft but... Vanilla keeps pushing towards making the biomes MORE mechanically and visually unique, each with their own resources and style. The BOP mod made itself emptier and less interesting. And it wasn't always like that: The Alps were absolutely massive, they had these hot springs that gave you regeneration when you hopped inside and they were insanely tall. The orchard biome used to actually have apple tress like BYG's until the fun police decided they were too op and turned the orchard into a forest with no fruit. The sacred springs jungles had these huge trees, thick growth, these cool overhangs, and hot springs, then they were made flat (for some reason), then removed entirely. The Eucalyptus Forest had these lovely rainbow logs that were colorful while still looking natural, it was a patently great biome that was removed... Seemingly just because. BYG has one just like it though. The Ashen Inferno of the nether was like the Soul Sand wasteland before that was a thing, though it had one interesting thing that makes it worth mentioning, the blue fire didn't burn you, it had this unique effect that made you thrash about uncontrollably for a bit. The nether used to have these giant hive structures full of honey you could swim in, and if you broke inside you had to fight giant wasps. The Flower Island was a rare biome filled with giant flowers instead of trees. The grass texture even had little white flowers on it. The BOP mod is still good and the new additions like the Fungal Jungle and Glowing mushroom caves look amazing and show that the author still has that lovely creative spark. But they also got rid of some of their more interesting biomes for nebulous, arbitrary, reasons and stripped away every unique mechanic or mob that dared to crop up. The biomes feel empty. Not to mention their choices of what to keep and what to drop are bizarre, how did the clover field, grassland, and woodland, keep being ported, while the flower island and eucalyptus forest get left behind?!

Man I miss old Biomes o plenty, my favorite biome was the alps one with huge tall snow mountains but they didn’t gradually get steeper and the were flat on top. With ice lakes and rivers at the base
  • @muitacoisagus
Damn, i didn't know they removed the overgrown garden (i think this is its name). it was a biome that had a unique flowerly grass and no trees, only poppies and dandelions. But the thing that sold that biome is that instead of trees, there was GIANT poppy and dandelion version that looked so surreal and pretty. It was very rare but one of my faves none the less
  • ok fun fact for the cold desert, it may be inspired by the extremely obscure pre b1.8 ice desert biome, which never generated naturally but were going to be the coldest biome supposedly

I can't believe I just watched an almost 40 minute video of a person ranking biomes. Well, I enjoyed every second of it, thank you!
  • @sammyfox9109
id also like to note that the mediteranean forrest also contains calcite beaches on its lakes and rivers which just for some reason just makes it my favorite biome
  • Biomes o' Plenty, a very nice mod... that I almost never use in survival packs. Feels like it makes modded structures and stuff a whole lot rarer, and also OH MY GOD SO MUCH FLORA.
  • @notalifefan
Correction (21:58) : The Origin Valley actually features Roses, which were unfairly abandoned in favor of the Poppies in version 1.7.2, which I'm very upset about to this day.
  • @spiralyt309
You should rank the biomes from the terralith datapack. It’s interesting what they managed to do with only vanilla blocks
  • @DogsRNice
I like the older versions with the wackier biomes that sadly don't exist or get nerfed
  • @kachiyun8616
I know terralith is no mod, but man. I feel it makes minecraft look way more stunning than biomes o plenty
  • @falkuistion
I feel like current Minecraft's terrain generation doesn't really mesh well with most of these biomes. Feel like things are too vertical and hilly. Not a fault of the mod, obviously, but it seems weird that a "field" biome has pretty steep craggy hills scattered about. It just looks weird. I feel like most of these biomes would look a lot better in more flat, open terrain. I do appreciate the video as it showcases what's in the current version quite well. It is a damn shame so many biomes were removed from the mod. I'm pretty sure there was a dimension at one point? I think the mod author has sorta lost the plot and has just resorted to making really plain, boring, and sometimes straight-up ugly looking biomes. Oh well, good video though. I do agree that Better Nether is abhorrent to look at.

Biomes O'Plenty has been with us since like 1.4.7, I most definitely remember playing the old Feed The Beast packs with BOP installed. And the trees in the Cherry Blossom Grove and Lavender Forest got a massive overhaul in 1.20+ thanks to the Cherry Blossom leaves from vanilla.
