This is from Production I.G.'s anime adaptation of "Tengoku Daimakyou (Heavenly Delusion)".

Tengoku Daimakyou / Heavenly Delusion

Within the safety of the walls, youths are raised in a nursery-style setting by robots. While life there may appear stale on the surface, the children are full of potential and curiosity. In many ways it is like a slice of heaven. The outside world is a hell-scape. It is almost entirely void of anything mechanical and is now inhabited by bizarre, yet powerful super-natural beings.

Maru, with the aid of Kiruko, is out there crisscrossing what was once Tokyo for heaven. But after searching for so long, maybe heaven is more of an untenable dream than a potential reality.

  • People are mad Kiruko told Mary not to kill Robin but I think people are missing what that moment meant for both of those characters For Kiruko, Robin had betrayed her and raped her, and make no mistake she didn’t lie to herself afterwards to Robin was in anyway a good person. But beforehand, Maru had been upset by what happened with Dr Usami and believed that all he could do was harm and kill. She couldn’t let him now cross that line and deal with intentionally killing someone, even a sack of shit like Robin

A subtle detail in that scene that many may overlook was how Maru was handling things with Robin. Typically when up against foes, he'd end fights as quick and decisively as possible. But here, the boy had Robin with his back to the wall and kept pushing him back there if he attempted to flee and did so without even making any direct eye contact. The act of rape is about the suspect forcing themselves upon their unwilling victim. Knowing Robin was no match for him physically, Maru was toying with the man to show how helpless he was against him in the same way he forced himself onto Kiruko before beating him to a bloody pulp.

I like how the wall literally cracks when Maru kicks it. That boy has some real power
  • @Did_No_Wrong
Honestly the beatdown was better executed in the anime. In the manga he just pushes him into the wall a couple times and only lands 1 punch.

That look on maru says it all, he wanted to kill Robin slowly and painful as possible
  • @KennyMcGavin
Got let off the hook too easily. While I don't think he should've killed him, I was genuinely sitting in the couch screaming; "BREAK HIS ARMS! BREAK HIS ARMS!!! PLEASE AT LEAST BREAK ONE ARM!!"

As some people have mentioned already, Kiruko say telling Maru not to kill him because she didn't want Maru to cross that line and solidify Maru think of himself as only someone who can harm and kill others. That said, She definitely could have said it better to make it seem she wasn't still obsessed with Robin.

This part of the story was more hard to watch (not bc the writers did a bad job it's the opposite) than the rape honestly. Bc it's was very accurate. The fact she could have escaped from the ropes but she was numb inside but didn't wake up basically until she had wake up call (Maru) had me crying. When she told Maru to stop and not kill him bc it seems there was still a piece of her who cared for this asshole and finally after going through the emotions and realizing this asshat isn't worth it and ripped his picture was so so real. When a person is assaulted by someone they loved and cared for the mental hurdles to just tell yourself, "yes this person did this," whether it's sexual assult, physical, emotional etc it's hard to accept that to yourself.

1:02 Damn that face.. I understand his pain and was like wtf is wrong with you?
  • @Consectivess
Honestly, probably would have still crushed the dudes skull even with the pleading not to. Too much of a danger to other people who may come upon this dude
  • @LongliveMrFresh
"please don't kill him if u do we won't get villain later" lol

I think the fact that Robin immediately runs away from Maru indicates he’s knowledgeable about the Hiruko people and their powers. He’s portrayed as competent in fighting and very observational in combat, so him running away must mean he at least suspects Maru is Hiruko. That and his freaky research. Wonder what he’s up to

It's pretty satisfying to see someone who forced himself onto others get manhandled like a child, completely helpless to run away or stop Maru. The sound design is interesting too. When Maru throws him into the wall you can feel the impact as if it was a real person and can imagine how much it hurt, then when he actually starts hitting Robin the punches feel so weighty, like he's genuinely going to cave his head in with them if he keeps going. There's just a brutality to it that's both satisfying and a bit worrying for Maru's sake.

Kiruko grew up with this trash he was like father/brother figure to him in short they are like family, he was one of the reasons why kiruko wanted to live hoping that there is still someone left in the orphanage. But she was betrayed in the worst unexpected way, it was confusing to her mentally and emotionally to the point that it fks her brain up, after that horrible incident she hated him, but not emotionally ready to get that trash killed. In this episode we learn that she was soft and maru is the one who protects all along.
  • @jairballard8190
Should have just ignored her and killed him not just because of what he did but because he'll obviously be back should have killed him then and there
  • @ayasakikurisu
If I were Maru, I would've at least leave the guy with a dislocated bone.
  • @chrisrey0018
The animation is beautiful man, his expressions mean a lot
  • @Aiden5763
The animators are goated for making meru land some punches on that bastard's face because he didn't do any of that in the manga before she stopped him
