Is German really that hard?

Published 2024-07-07
In this video I explain some aspects of German grammar that might make you think that it is a hard language. Do you agree? Is there anything I forgot to mention in this video? Write them in the comment section below!

Here are some links I mentioned in the video to learn more about separable verbs (trennbaren Verben):

My name is Yohanes, and I am a language enthusiast. My mother tongue is Indonesian, and I speak the following languages (with a decreasing order of fluency): English, French, German, Spanish. I also learn(ed) Korean, Chinese, and Finnish, but I wouldn't say that I "speak" the language (yet) :)

Sehr gute Zusammenfassung der Punkte. Ich habe auch mal sowas gemacht, aber mit den Punkten, die Deutsch leicht machen und mit denen die es schwer machen. Bei mir hatte ich noch die Deklination der Adjektive erwähnt und die reflexiven Verben. Schau ruhig mal rein.

Great recap of key points in the German language!

You failed to mention: when verbs go all the way to the end of the sentence (which is quite common). In my opinion, it belongs in the top three in terms of how unintuitive and difficulty.

    Indonesian is harder than German????
  • Arabic and Bangali language are very simple to learn same as English.
  • Ich finde Russisch und Chinesisch und indisch viel schwieriger als Deutsch

Why does English always sound so aggressive? Quite often not even all of us Germans get German grammar and spelling right. And that's only speaking of "standard German", don't get me started with the circa 100 dialects.
