Today I want to cover some interesting things about fruit. Fruit contains vitamin C, phytonutrients, and fiber. But does the bad outweigh the good?

Fruits have at least 5 times more sugar than vegetables. In fact, 85% of a piece of fruit is sugar. If you’re eating fruit for health reasons, you may want to get your nutrients from a different source.

Fruits have very low amounts of many nutrients that your body needs, including:
• Protein
• Fat
• Iron
• B vitamins
• Calcium
• Zinc
• Omega-3
• Vitamin D

Certain fruits have lower amounts of sugar and are fine to consume in small amounts, including:
• Raspberries
• Blackberries
• Blueberries
• Strawberries

Fruit contains glucose and fructose. Fructose might be low on the glycemic index, but it’s not a healthy alternative to sugar. Only the liver can metabolize fructose, which means it can overload the liver and cause a cascade of issues.

Other problems with fructose:
• It causes you to feel less satisfied
• It increases cortisol
• It decreases insulin sensitivity
• It contributes to a fatty liver

My grandma is 97 and she eats fruit every day. My granddad also used to eat fruit every day and he lived until he was 94. I think the general rule of thumb is to just eat a balance diet and get regular exercise.
  • And I'm still gonna continue to buy green, grapes, apples and bananas because it's either that or donuts. I'm just saying 🤷‍♂️
  • I have fruit after a savory lunch and I feel like it fixes my sweet/sugar cravings like I have been doing that for a while and I almost never crave highly processed foods anymore... so fruit helps keep me from having a sugar crash which is good the long run:)

It is getting harder and harder figuring out what the healthy foods are...

my Mother is 92, she's a regular banana, papaya, avocado and many more fruits consumers on a daily basis, and she is super strong and healthy for her age, thanks for sharing ♥
  • First time I disagree with Dr. Berg. My parents are proof that eating fruit daily is good for your health. My dad is a very healthy 100... that’s right, one hundred year young man and my mom is 90. We grew up eating all kinds of 🍏 🍌 🍉 🍎 every single day... my mom weighs 136, my dad 132. No fatty liver or NACL or diabetes, thanks be to God. I think the key as for everything else is moderation, exercise a good sense of humor, faith and love.

Fruits are rich in antioxidants that repair the oxidative stress damage caused by the metabolism. My mom eats fruit everyday, she is healthy and is 10 or 20 years older that the doc in the video, but looks younger lol.

One thing though..the carbohydrates are wrapped in fiber packets in fruit so it is a slow release. The body metabolizes the sugar differently in fruit vs added sugars in processed foods.

Dr Berg, when it comes to fruits and most things, I just follow nature , there is a good reason why a tree gives us fruits once per year for about 1 or 2 weeks, there is a good reason why some fruits grow in different regions, so I only eat fruits when they are in season and fruits that grow in my region no imported or from other regions fruits, I follow nature because nature knows best. Problem with us humanbeings we became so clever that we became stupid eating fruits daily all year round and importing them fruits from other regions.
  • My Grandpa lives with us. He is 94 years old. Still able to do most things for himself. A young 94 you may say. Anyway, he is telling me that growing up as a kid, his family had an abundance of fruit. They would have it daily. And throughout his life he has had one type of fruit or another with every meal. And he still does.

The problem is most experts link the sugar in fruits in the same catagory as sugar in cookies, candy bars, and doughnuts. 2 totally different sugars.
  • @titusknutson4471
Nah bro buggin fruit LOADED with B-vitamins, and tons of other micronutrients
  • I like to stick to berries (especially raspberries) because they are lower on the glycemic index and contain fiber. I feel getting my sweetness through fruit is a way better option than picking candy, cookies etc
  • What’s interesting is some cultures live on 75% or more fruit in the tropics. They are considerably healthier than most people in the US
  • This one I won’t be able to comply with. Love your vids. Very informational and has helped me for the better. Thank you for your work!

Eric, I think you're disregarding a crucial point when it comes to fruit: The enzymes that come packaged with fresh fruit. You can't be pointing out the amount of sugar with no regard to the amount of pre-packaged enzymes that will help you break that sugar down. And I have to say from personal experience that it's practically impossible to overeat fruit. That's because fruit will actually satisfy you, contrary to refined sugars – that is a fact. The enzymes that come with fresh fruit are the most important reason why you should NEVER buy or consume pasteurized fruit juice, which makes up the majority of fruit juice products with many of them also containing concentrates. Ideally, you shouldn't be drinking (or cooking) your fruit at all – you should be eating your fruit. Even if you juice fresh fruit with a juice machine, it's never as beneficial as eating the fruit. In that regard, smoothies are much better than juices from a health standpoint. Natural sugars (no refining whatsoever) are generally harmless until you heat them. So, don't heat honey, maple syrup, fruits or other sources of natural sugar. Doing so will actually make them harmful! For example, glazing your steak with honey before you cook it will cause a lot of harm, because you're ruining the honey by heating it, and you're combining protein with sugar (which is BAD). But the point is, eating fresh fruit is not harmful! Of course, you should make sure you're getting the best quality (as with any foods) – meaning pesticide-free and grown with natural fertilizers only and in nutrient rich soil with climate conditions ideal for the plant. If you tick all those boxes, eating fruit could never be a bad thing unless you're a diabetic. But you don't become a diabetic from eating fruit. That's accomplished from refined carbohydrates, which do include pasteurized fruit products. So, to repeat myself: NEVER buy or consume pasteurized fruit products! And preferably, don't cook with fruit or sugar, natural or otherwise.
  • Hi , I had been so ill this past couple of years, until I came across yourself and Dr Mandel and listened to what you were both saying then changed my diet and now I have finally got rid of my illness and I'm on route to a full recovery. Huge thank you for sharing your knowledge and understanding of how food is medicine and much better for us than expensive processed foods

My aunt was having trouble with her heart. God told her to eat bananas. She did and the heart problem went away.

I live in Italy and I eat fruit everyday. I walk everywhere burning off all the sugars in my fruity diet. Watermelon is literally my favourite food, truly the nectar of the Gods🍉🍉🍉. I'm a Caribbean woman my great grandmother lived to be 103 eating fresh fruit everyday of her life. I'm eating a very Mediterranean diet now and am the healthiest I've ever been.
