Tyrese Haliburton will be the MVP of the In-Season Tournament over LeBron James with one more win. Most people never saw this coming when he was drafted but it was still a shock that 11 teams passed on him. This is a look at why that happened and if the Kings were wrong to give up on him so early.

It's the lack of turnovers that is wild. He has the ball ALL THE TIME

Haliburton has the ability to assist people and bring chemistry to a team

People gotta realize Buddy Hield was a cancer on the Kings. After his most improved 2019 season and he got paid, he stopped caring and became Jordan Poole'esque. Trading Haliburton wasn't just to get Sabonis but also to unload Hield's big contract because as a Kings fan watching Hield play on both sides of the ball was infuriating because he flat out did not care and he still had the audacity to complain to the media about not having the ball in his hands as much as he wanted. The trade didn't just make Fox & Sabonis All-NBA talents, it replaced Hield with Malik Monk, Trey Lyles, Kevin Huerter, and Keegan Murray. For Buddy Hield who played like he hated living in Sacramento and wanted to get traded, we got 4 players who play like they love Sacramento and want to stay. Kings pretty much got a full rebuild just from trading 2 players. Yes Haliburton is shining in Indy, but if the Kings traded Fox the narrative would be the same but for Fox. "Did the Kings trade the wrong PG?" Let's be real here, the media has never liked the Kings nor has the media ever given the Kings recognition despite the current success, if Hali was still on the Kings he'd still be flying under the radar while Fox would be getting all the national attention in Indy.

“IUPUI, a small school no one’s heard of.” Me, who’s moving to Indiana next semester and attending IUPUI: 😔

Two words: mixtape menaces. Haliburton was the antithesis of a mixtape menace, he played fundamentally sound basketball at Iowa State and didn't have the most athleticism or the best looking jumpshot. Little did they know that he had all the abilities to make it work as a pro's pro in the NBA

Sabonis and Fox were both All Stars and All-NBA a season after the trade, Hali flourished with the keys to his own team after the trade. It was a good trade for both teams

1:28 well magic is definitely on one side of positivity 😂

Fantastic player, it's so fun to watch him play.

the thing is if hali stayed on kings, it may not work because of their roster. So still a win win, being a hit or bust really depends not just on the player but also the staff, coaches, roster chemistry and environment

Tyrese is truely the most valuable offensive player in the NBA if you combine advanced statistics, age and salary value. Best Bang for your buck • Only 3 players score at least 25 PPG on Min. 60% true shooting, while raking in at least 2 offensive win shares. SGA, Jokic & Haliburton • Only 3 players record at least 8 APG with at least 40% AST% and less then 14% turnover %. Booker, Jokic & Haliburton • Keep in mind that he is still only 23 • Bro also has a base salary of only 5.8 mil. Compare that to Jokic' 47.6 mil. and you understand why I emphasize bang for buck If Steve Nash played in 2023...

I'm sorry A.M. I have to push back on that narrative of the Sacramento Kings making a mistake trading him to Indiana. Both him and Fox wouldn't have flourished as the players they are today if they were playing under one another. This was definitely a win-win situation for both teams and I'm not a Sacramento Kings or Indiana Pacers fan. The Kings got exactly what they we're looking for when they traded for Sabonis and paired him up with Fox. This is truly a definition of a win-win situation for both organizations. Have to disagree with you on that narrative that the Sacramento made a mistake in trading him It worked out for them both.

Plus, to complete the story, we also have the 8th Obi Toppin (Knicks), 10th Jalen Smith (Suns), 14th Aaron Nesmith (Boston) of the 2020 draft class.
  • It was a win win for both sides and I’m not even a kings fan. Two small market teams got what they wanted or needed and so far both players seem to become instant fan favorites and don’t seem to be going anywhere for a long time.

Yes, the people that watch Kings basketball are the only people that don't regret the trade. Fox is awesome and he works really well with Sabonis. "Fourth Quarter Fox" is not the bust that people are pretending he is. And the Kings are coming off their best season in decades. Calling them a "first round exit" team after they seeded 3rd in the West and took the underseeded Warriors to a game 7 in their first full year together is pretty tone deaf. That trade was a huge win for both teams. As a Pacers fan that has been keeping up with Sabonis, I wish the Kings the best and I expect to see a Sac-Indy Finals in the coming years, as both teams mature.

Iupui grad here. George hill went there. Good school.
  • @dylan23dodge6
as easy as it is to hate on that trade, the kings didnt really have a choice. If you keep tyrese and continue to be bad, theres a high chance that the franchise would have to relocate, even if you have a higher ceiling in the future. That one good season last year saved the team and now they are going to be a legit playoff team for years
  • @Kristenmarie93
And now Obi Toppin & Jalen Smith play key starting roles with Ty on the Pacers. Jalen might've been a bad pick for the Suns but he's been really solid in Indy...Obi as well but A.M. didn't diss the ever livin shit out of Obi like he did Jalen. Its almost as if he didn't even know he played for the Pacers now & has been fantastic
