The eighth episode (extra and unused footage) of our Laurel Canyon miniseries, by Wolf River Music Television. A Journey Thru History and Song 1965-1974 explores the inner workings of the music scene that seemed to explode out of this area north of Hollywood in the mid-1960's and featured legendary musicians and groups such as: The Byrds, The Mamas and The Papas, Buffalo Springfield, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, CSNY, The Doors, Frank Zappa, Carole King, The Eagles, Gram Parsons, Love, Jackson Browne, The Monkees, etc. plus music industry giants such as David Geffen, Elliot Mintz, Jim Ladd, Ron Stone and Paul Rothchild. See the famous Canyon Country Store, Love Street, the Tom Mix Cabin, the Houdini Estate, and all of the other places made famous by the likes of Jim Morrison, Cass Elliot, John Lennon and others. We'll even touch on some of the darker elements that were lurking within the shadows such as the Manson Family and the inevitable evils of cocaine and heroin and they crept into the scene, causing havoc and destruction. No matter how many times this subject of music coming out of Laurel Canyon has been repeated in other documentaries, there's always something new to learn and discover. The stories are endless and some of it can be surprising and even downright shocking. Please be sure to watch all eight episodes. Each one has a different theme and a different set of characters and events. www.wolfrivermusic.com/

Pic Dawson worked for my father for a year circa 1962. I remember him as a "class clown" type guy with a thick southern accent. It is my understanding that he met Cass when she was in the Big 3 and then followed her out to LA when she hit big. My dad ran into Pic in 1977 on the streets of Georgetown, DC. Pic stated that he had become a "drug dealer to the stars", but was now on the straight and narrow. He asked my dad to cash a check for him and dad did so, knowing Pic's dad was a former State Department mucketymuck and was of some wealth. The check bounced. I still have it.

My head is about to explode with the 'connect the dots' puzzle you have presented with so many of my musical heroes of the 60's and 70's! I can't say enough positive things about your work! (I had completely forgotten about MDA in that era! One of the few things I never did. LOL)

Drugs is the missing link in so many stories from the music and entertainment industries. Many of the stories will never be told for obvious reasons
  • Hi Thankyou for sharing the life and tragic life of talented and beautiful sweet Cass Elliot. Always will enjoy her Mamas and the Papas songs. May she Rest In Peace ☮️👍🏻

I totally agree with your opinion. Of John Phillips,Cass was the one who made that group successful
  • This is one my favorite episodes of this series since it examines the "darker" elements that the Laurel Canyon celebs were dabbling in and the chain of events that ended the whole "60's" scene. Even today, many celebrities that were part of this "scene" (that are still alive) are hush--hush on all of this. Kind of makes you wonder. Now watching this episode for the third time.
  • its refreshing to find someone we can trust to fill us in on the facts !

I thought I knew a lot about all of this until I started watching your videos, especially this one. I knew absolutely nothing about Pic or Billy until this video. Intriguing? You bet! I am enjoying your videos so, so much! I am learning a lot that I really want to know so keep going! Thank you for all the info that you have, no doubt, worked hard at getting. See you in part 3!

Greatly appreciate your videos. Been following all this for over 40 years. Tom O'Neill's book is terrifice and can't wait for his second on the subject. There were defitely more people involved that Manson's people. I have never looked at anything so complex as this. Keep up the good work
