You’ve probably heard the term “gut health” and know that “good” gut health is desirable. But what does it really mean to have a healthy gut? It means having the right balance of tiny bacteria and other microbes in your digestive tract. Researchers are increasingly discovering ways these microorganisms contribute to overall health.

  • What i like best about your videos is how straight forward and explanatory they are without becoming boring while at the same time being practical and beneficial on a daily basis. Thanks.

I’m SO glad you made this video. It’s crazy how little fiber we eat in our diets today, at least in the US. And I heard in another reputable science channel that it’s not just one fiber, but hundreds, when you look at them closely. And different microbiota need different fiber. That’s why it’s important to have a diverse diet of many types of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, oh, and mushrooms. Another oncologist out of University of California said 8-9 cups of these per person per day is what is needed to support the microbiome.

Every doctor ‘preaches’ fiber but not one ever explained it in such a way! Thanks!

Terrific video as gut health is finally being recognized by many more doctors for it's importance

I did a 2 week fruit and veggies cleanse a while back and felt great, digestion improved etc. One of the main reasons is I was actually getting enough fiber. He is 100 percent correct that most Americans don't.
  • Great video on the importance of our gut microbiome. Fiber, fiber, fiber is needed. I personally have an adverse reaction to most antibiotics. Fermented food also helps in keeping you gut microbiome balanced. 👍
  • Couldn't agree more. We need more fiber and a wider variety of fiber, too! The later might even be more important than the quantity when it comes to building a healthy microbiota. It's also important to note that folks who have lost tolerance to fiber (common w/ IBS and SIBO, among other conditions) need to focus on building their tolerance again gradually. The answer is NOT to cut out fiber forever (ex. carnivore diet).

I loved this video. It provides real data and information. I recently saw another video, recommending not to eat grains and to load on meat and eggs. It's hard for a consumer to find the correct information when some MDs have an agenda. The information just seems so discombobulated when every video you watch contra indicates the next one. Thank you, Doctor Mike.
  • Thanks Doc for that video. Very informative indeed. It would be nice to get info on IBS as well in one of your future videos.

I think I'd like to go on a guided field trip, maybe 4-6 people with one nutitionist, prowling a supermarket after hours so we could actually see and feel what our choices should or should not be. All different, but all guided. It is one thing to see a video, quite another to go hands on and drill in the actual memory.

Crazy how much more we know about how the body works! I try to stay up to date but without the in depth magazine articles that were more common even just 10 years ago its been hard to know what is solid science backed information Nothing new in fiber is good for you but knowing all these why’s makes it easier for me
  • Here in Scotland, many people live off a daily diet of take-aways with resulting negative health outcomes. Trying to persuade people to buy (often much cheaper) fresh fruit and vegetables is almost an impossibility.

  • Can you do a full video on healing leaky gut. It’s a tough condition to heal.

Thank you doctor Mike. I really need this right now. The other channel emphasized keto and I am not into it. And now I understand why all the protein from animal that I try to eat doesn't help much.
