In this video you can enjoy the night cab ride - train driver's view on the famous and unique Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Schwebebahn) between the final stations of Oberbarmen BF station, Vohwinkel station and back in 4K/30 frames per second.

This journey leads us along the unique German Wuppertal Suspension Railway (Wuppertaler Schwebebahn). The line was originally called Eugen Langen Monorail Overhead Conveyor System, named for its inventor, Eugen Langen. It is the oldest electric elevated railway with hanging cars in the world and is a unique system in Germany. Construction of this suspension railway began in 1898 and the line was ceremoniously opened in 1901, with Emperor Wilhelm II taking a test ride with wife Auguste Viktoria.

The Schwebebahn runs along a route of 13.3 kilometres (8.3 mi), at a height of about 12 metres (39 ft) above the river Wupper between Oberbarmen and Sonnborner Straße (10 kilometres or 6.2 miles) and about 8 metres (26 ft) above the valley road between Sonnborner Straße and Vohwinkel (3.3 kilometres or 2.1 miles). Only four of the 20 stops run above solid ground. The entire trip takes about 30 minutes. More than 80,000 people use the suspension monorail on a daily basis.

In 2015 the first of 31 new vehicles Generation 15 or GTW 15 trains were introduced. Through the use of three-phase asynchronous motors, this is the first time that the possibility of energy recovery during braking has been exploited. The operating voltage has been increased from 600 to 750 volts. In terms of safety, an entirely new train safety system ETCS has been installed.

Wuppertal Schwebebahn has a sister suspension railway relationships with Shonan Monorail since 2018. Shonan Monorail is a suspension railway located in Kanagawa, Japan and connects the cities between Kamakura and Fujisawa.

I have seen many videos of this route, but all in daylight. What a treat to see it at night! Thank You!
  • @RunVirtual5
The night ride was truly enchanting. Your videos typically don't showcase this perspective, making the night ride all the more captivating and unique.

I never tire of Schwebebahn cab ride videos. Night time is another level, though. Thanks!

After watching this, I don't know how I lived without the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn 👍
  • I think this is the best quality of a night video I've ever seen!
  • I should have taken the opportunity to ride in this Wuppertal Schwebebahn when I visited Germany several times. But now I am too old and do not have the opportunity anymore.. I have been to Germany, Switzerland , Austria,, France, Italy, Netherland, UK and Finland. I missed all these places.
  • Raramente se pode apreciar uma viagem noturna com tanto encanto . Essas imagens foram mesmo magnificas . Excelente trabalho . Muito obrigada por compartilhar . :face-red-heart-shape:

Such a great job with the low-light exposure. Perfectly balanced.
- The Wuppertal Suspension Railway as it has never been shown before! A really interesting documentation of a technical masterpiece like this railway represents. Maybe there will be a few more evening and night trips on this channel, especially from urban areas.

Absolutely fabulous example of engineering at its very best.

I so want to ride this one of these days. I'm from Seattle, and have ridden our Monorail thousands of times. Be so interesting to ride one with the track ABOVE the train..
  • Even though I live in Germany, I've never visited this great suspension railway in Wuppertal - I've clearly missed something! Great pictures during the night journey, these lighting atmospheres at the entrances to stops, an often glittering reflection on the surface of the Wupper River - a night journey through an illuminated city naturally offers much more variety than a night journey on a railway train that is only illuminated every now and then Places and train stations touched... It was worth installing the Go Pro on the outside: the image quality is simply fantastic without any annoying or dirty driver's cab windows 👍 🤔🤔 I'm not sure, but before the return journey from the depot in Oberbarmen to Vohwinkel, a nice gentleman stood at the end of the platform and waved friendly at the camera... Since no one had to be behind the camera because it was filming from outside, this nice scene could have shown us the filmmaker himself... 😉😄 But it's all pure speculation 🙄 Many greetings 🖖

Grazie per aver pubblicato questa linea; bella, complimenti! Buona giornata e buona Domenica. Ciao.
  • I was fascinated, not only by the train and all the support structure, but also by the night time circumstance. Really enjoyed. Thank you.
