He is so good at game orchestration. He doesn't need to be a scorer. He defends, assists and his enegery always gets the atttention

The difference between Tatum of 2022 finals and now is he isn’t useless if he isn’t shooting well. His defense is exceptional, his rebounding is stellar, his playmaking has improved so much and his gravity is extremely noticeable

Idk jayson personally and probably never will. But im speculating that he don’t give a damn about scoring anymore. He wants to win. He wants this chip so bad he’ll do whatever it takes. 2 points or 50. 10 rebounds. 10 assists. Blocks. Steals. How much ATTENTION he garners. So many things he does right vs what he does wrong

I find it really funny that the Celtics, a team famed for their talent across the board, has a player getting double teamed, while the Mavs, a team with two of the best iso scorers in the league, is being played straight up.
  • It's funny watching the national media have to act like they weren't spending the entire couple last two weeks explaining how the Celtics were going to get destroyed.

My god, FINALLY a voice of reason on basketball YouTube! I feel like I've been screaming this into the clouds all season. Guys, calling JT a role player, role players don't get the attention JT gets, every game. That's what allows his team mates to do what they do. People cried for years that JT needed to involve his team mates more to be a great player. He does that, and now because he's not avg 30ppg (which he did last year and they still hated), he's a role player now!? Really!? Thank you for intelligently and clearly showing these knuckleheads what time it is! You've gained a subscriber my friend 🤙

Best Celtics film study done right here. Thanks Nik

At first I was a little down on Tatum with the TOs, but rewatching the game and watching this video made me realize he was reading the game at a high level and making the right play. The mavs bought too much of the media hype about the Tatum/ant discussion thinking they could just double him and he wouldn’t be able to make the right read. And then acting like the other four dudes can’t also shoot the shit. It’ll be interesting to see the adjustments both teams make going forward, if any.
  • Finally someone understands Tatum worth … it should of been obvious last year in game 7 but people going to hate. All about 18 baby

This is why he deserves finals mvp. Without him we wouldn’t win it’s very simple
  • @tylerriley2587
The Mavs plan was basically take JT out of the picture and make Brown the primary scorer and other Celtics to step up. It backfired we aren’t the Timberwolves and two years ago against golden state it worked because we didn’t have enough offense
  • @meatduck-ki3do
Great video. You broke things down very well and made clear cut explanations for people who don’t know basketball but talk like they do

I was saying to myself watching the game, if hockey assists counted and teammates knocked down shots, Tatum easily had double digit assists. And i truly think the ppl youre addressing are either box score watchers OR just ppl realizing everyone cant be Lebron. He was pretty much the only player to get triple teamed at the rim and consistently finish or find a shooter or cutter NO MATTER the coverage, he was special. I think Tatum is being held to that standard cuz why else would anyone who watched the game, question the decisions he made at those points? Other than to say, he not better than lebron. And To me thats totally fine.
  • @ryohazuki605
Love how ppl said he wasnt being doubled or tripled lmao
  • @davenalunat1433
3 guys are constantly collapsing on him the whole game. Might be the 1st person to win a Finals game for his team without scoring. 😂
  • @louisneals601
Fax! great breakdown, JT is the MVP of the game he made it all happen . rebound and he barley came out.
  • @Goatchees3
I feel like the game plans for both teams were completely opposite of each other. The Celtics let Luka be Luka but smothered everyone else. One guy cannot beat the Celtics but the Mavs focused so much on Tatum and left so many terrible mismatches for everyone else and JT has become an incredible playmaker and makes way better decisions this year. Last year he would have been forcing up terrible pullups or driving into crowds for contested layups

Thanks for this. Most fans only see the ball going through the net and miss the other 99% of the game. Among small forwards, Tatum was third in Hollinger's PER after only LeBron and Kawhi. It's not a perfect stat but it does indicate how Tatum is among the best at leveraging his presence into his team winning (Jaylen is 4th among shooting guards, btw). It's pick your poison with the Celtics but Tatum is inevitably the guy who gets the most defensive attention. Because if you don't double team him when he touches the ball, he's going to kill you. Opponents want him to play hero ball and the temptation must be there for Tatum - players watch the sports shows and know what the public and 'experts' say about them. Tatum isn't all the way there yet as a playmaker but he's getting close. Which is very good for the C's and terrifying for the rest of the league.

A lot of what BOS does against Luka is just to wear him out. The multiple fakes and whatnot are making Luke move around. Do that on multiple plays and he gets tired as the game goes on.
