Here on my channel, I am renovating a 250 year old stone cottage on my property in Normandy, France. By using traditional, low-waste and off-grid methods, I'm aiming to keep the charm and character of this old building, and turn it into a furnished, finished home for family whilst keeping environmental impact as low as possible. There will also be content on living in France, visiting beautiful rural places, hunting for antiques, gardening, and more! Hit subscribe if you would like to keep up with my journey, and hit the notification bell to be alerted when we go LIVE where we have a first viewing of the video as it is published with a live chat so I can answer all your questions! See you in Sean's World.

Here are some natural ways to keep flies away on a farm: Plant aromatic plants Flies are discouraged by many aromatic plants, especially those with citrus-like scents or rich herbs. You can plant these in containers or in your garden and landscape to minimize fly populations. Some good options include: Basil: A common fly-repellent plant that releases natural oils Lavender: Contains a chemical called linalool that flies dislike, and is often used in fly-repellent lotions Mint: Can repel flies, mosquitoes, and ants without making a mess Rosemary: Can add flavor to your food while also keeping flies away
  • A terrific find on the roof tiles, Sam! Exactly what Sean has been waiting for. The barn will soon become weather tight as well! What a pleasant thought!

Sean you keep so busy it’s nice to see you take the “5” and appreciate your beautiful place. Good on you Sam for finding the tiles.

You could try citronella. That usually keeps the pesty insects away. Love the cottage renovation & it’s great you got all those roof tiles for your barn Sean.
  • Congratulations on the tiles. Can’t wait to see the new/old roof.

Congratulations on the tiles! Sam keeps her eyes open! Pretty copper container. PS, I bought a couple of mosquito jackets online years ago. A fine mesh. A bit warm in hot weather. One jacket is easier to see out of than the other. The head covering zippers loose so you can toss it back off your head.

Seen a farmer on YouTube take sheet fly paper and wrap it around trash cans think used 3 or 4 . Took a couple changes but it worked around the live stock 🙌 😊
  • Could you replace the front of the two buildings with the same tiles and then the fronts will look the same and put the ones off the other on the back. Just a thought.
  • "Key features to tell a swift from a swallow or martin are the dark underside (swallows and martins have pale bellies), the proportionately longer wings and the screaming call. Swifts fly in the upper part of the air column as they hunt; swallows pursue insects closer to the ground or water" I found this information on Google
  • Sean, all the work you have to do, you are always happy and never complian. You certainly have your work ahead of you. Thank for sharing.

What a find those tiles were. I'm sure that is a huge load off your mind. At least now you can choose when the roof will get done. 🪰Darn Flies!!!!!
  • Kudos to Sam for finding a good deal on the roof tiles! Flat tires are the pits, and usually noticed to the wheelbarrow is full! Your wall is looking fine, Sean! I was holding my breath when you loosened that big rock! Mind your back! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
  • In Pennsylvania we put very shiny pennies in a baggie of water and hang up. The flies think it is a hugh bug coming to eat them and fly away!
  • @sparxnme22
Sticky brown paper fly traps that you hang up work for flies. ❤🇦🇺

I keep fresh basil in my kitchen to keep the flies away, they hate the smell Works like a dream!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • @cecoya
Wow you have done quite a bit of work there. The roof tiles are great, now you can finish the barn area. Love your garden area that is beautiful. Have a great day

Another cheap way to keep Flys at bay is simply put a shiny copper coin and water in a clear bag, secure it closed and hang in the area you will be in. Several bags for larger area. The flys see their reflection magnified in size and won't stay around.

Sean, what a wonderful score on those roof tiles. Sam really seems to know her stuff. I love watching you continue to work in the cottage. Cheers
