Hi friends, happy Thursday!

Welcome to the Dark History podcast. This guy was one of my favorite cartoon characters ever, but it turns out he’s actually based on a super creepy villain. Today we’re talking about Rasputin, the man who was possibly responsible for the fall of the Russian monarchy. He was rumored to be able to speak with animals, have magical healing powers, and even… be immortal?

I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more Dark History.

Hi Bailey! Everyone mark your attendance for history class! 🩷
  • I hate that I always confuse Rasputin and Rumpelstilskin when I hear their names 😂 Really throws off my history vs fairytale knowledge
  • @alexismarnold
This should be retitled as, “Bailey Sarian Roasts Rasputin for an Hour”
  • @hrs2624
You could do an entire dark history episode on the Romanov family alone. So interesting!
  • @nerd26373
We appreciate Bailey's dedication and hard work over the years. She has genuinely proven herself to be one of the most reputable storytellers out there.

Rasputin is #1 on the list of people I would not want to meet in a dark alley. Every photo of him at the time is so creepy, chills up my spine kind of creepy.
  • @grahamross88
"You can smell him through the picture" 😂 that got me
  • @ginamhensley
Bailey: mentions she wants the three books for her bday. Ends up with like 100 copies of each one 😂
  • Fun fact: "Rasputin" (Распутин, pronounced "rahz-POO-tin") translates to "he who has strayed from the path/way". (Further, "Putin" means "man of the path/way.") I remember reading that Rasputin wasn't born with that name, but rather he CHOSE his surname on purpose, which honestly would track if true. There are some great Russian surnames out there.

Please do a Dark History on Ivan the Terrible and/or Catherine the Great. Pleeeeease
  • @baylorsailor
    "... with a YAH, and a HI-YA, and I'll kick her sir." 🦇
  • Loved Anastasia. It was a beautifully animated masterpiece that deserves its own video because Disney was shaking in its boots over that one. And I also held onto hope that she was out there somewhere until my dad was like "you need to see this random history channel program" and it was about how they had found her body. He had so much beef with this children's movie and that was why. Little girls would be watching and thinking their new found favorite princess was alive and well. And she was dead.

Anastasia has always been one of my favorite childhood movies too. I remember learning about the true history of Rasputin in my middle school Social Studies class. It's definitely an interesting story!

I was obsessed with the Romanov family and read many books about them and what eventually happened. I truly believe that if the mother would have never met him, they may have lived.😥 He was evil incarnate, but was able to fool many, sadly
  • @Ninaagabi
The show ‘The Great’ does a great job at depicting him. side note: pleeease do Vlad the impaler. Now that dude is insane
  • @ShaySovaOfficial
I’m super obsessed with Russian history. You should do one on Cathrine the Great! She was wild! I read her memoirs n everything.
  • @joiedevivre2005
Fun Fact about Maria Rasputin - She ended up moving to LA & is buried at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery in Los Angeles.
  • @ashleyb8946
"Oh sure blame the bat, what the heck, we're easy targets!" ❤ I'm so glad it wasn't just me obsessed with this as a child. Thanks Bailey!! Wonderful as always
  • @jenjagger6745
Bailey! I would love it if you would do a native American series for the month of November. I know you've done quite a bit (Andrew Jackson), but I feel like there's so much more to learn. Especially in regard to all the missing native women and girls.
