lynyrd skynyrd - Simple Man

lyrics

Mama told me
When I was young
Come sit beside me
My only son
And listen closely
To what I say
And if you do this it'll help you some sunny day (Oh yeah)

Oh take your time
Don't live too fast
Troubles will come
And they will pass
Go find a woman
And you'll find love
And don't forget son, there is someone up above

And be a simple kind of man
Oh be somethin' you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son, if you can?

Forget your lust
For the rich man's gold
All that you need
Is in your soul
And you can do this
If you try
All that I want for you my son, is to be satisfied
And be a simple kind of man
Oh be somethin' you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son, if you can? (Oh yes I will)

Boy don't you worry
You'll find yourself
Follow your heart
And nothing else
And you can do this, oh babe, if you try
All that I want for you my son, is to be satisfied

And be a simple kind of man
Oh be somethin' you love and understand
Baby be a simple kind of man
Oh won't you do this for me son, if you can?

Baby be a simple, be a simple man
Oh be somethin' you love and understand...

This was my dad's favorite song. I got my first guitar just to learn it for him when I was 13. He passed away what feels like yesterday (July 20th, 2017) but I still play and practice this song till today for him.

I gave my son a copy of this song when he turned 13. Life went on, he graduated, went to college, joined the military. He got married at 30. It came time for the mother/son dance and this is the song that started. He said he listened to this song all his growing up years because it meant a lot to him. I never knew he listened to it other than the day I gave it to him.

Recently, the one who was my companion for over 3 years left me for a life of foolish adventures. I still feel a lot of pain; I am so emotionally hurt that sometimes it becomes something physical. I asked God for an answer, and I stumbled upon this song completely by chance. I didn't make a mistake; she did. My wounds are deep, but I will recover. If you're going through something like this, do as in the song—love, and you will understand. Be kind and follow your heart; everything you need is in your spirit.

today's my birthday and my mom sent me this song . I know that we have our pasts and that we come in go in each other's live like waves on the shoreline but I always think of her and I can't wait to see you again. years may separate us but our hearts stand still in time. I love you mom.
  • My son is getting married, we are doing a mother son dance and this is the song that I choose. His dad is dead, has been for years. So it's a little different in that matter. Beautiful song beautiful times
