(Part I) Thailand Jungle Monk Morning Routine
Published 2024-01-26
For a monk, the main focus in the morning is Bin Tabat, going to a village to receive alms. Receiving arms, usually in the form of rice, vegetables or any variety of foods gives the local populace an opportunity to display reverence for the monks as well as providing a feeling of starting the day with a kind act. Giving while expecting nothing in return is called "Tam Boon" ทำบุญ (making merit).
Stay tuned for future episodes where Dagwood sleeps in a tree, gets (for real) lost in the jungle and perhaps most shockingly, has a slipper misappropriated by a canine Bill Sikes. All this happens in between spider bites, making friends, introspective mind training and gaining mad respect for the monks who live this lifestyle for years and even decades.
Life is impermanent.
