Vidit is first name, Santosh is name of his father, Gujarathi is the surname. So Vidit Santosh Gujrati is the full name of the player. That is how people in Maharashtra state of India (where Vidit is from) are named.

If Nepo plays his best at the candidates, Alireza plays his worst chess at the candidates

Levy: Sneezes "Oh my goodness, I'm allergic to endgames" 🤣🤣
  • @egs06
+0.4 eval being “completely lost” for black (11:50) shows how good top players are at chess; down at my elo, being down 1.5 is usually fine

Levy hasn’t lost a single game in the candidates EVER! Good job Levy!!! 😁

The candidates inspire me to play chess every year. Then I realize I’ve lost 200 elo after two weeks. Then I quit again. Repeat

Nepo is the definition of the "I'm not done yet"

About the Vidit game, Levy says "the clock didn't play a big role in this game" but it's really only partially true. Vidit REALLY took his time and it really looked like he was heading himself into time trouble. The only reason Alireza didn't resign much earlier is because he pushed Vidit to time trouble by playing faster than usual to make him blunder. Otherwise the position is truely hopeless by the time he's down an exchange, and if not for the clock he'd resign immediatly Also, Alireza's time usage in the early parts of the game was quite unwise. He played Bd7 very quickly, and same goes for Qb6, both of which are mistakes. So in fact, this is one of the only games where the clock was interesting and played a big role.

I learned how to play chess last month. I've since then played 1k games. I'm obsessed. I've watched all of these recaps. I find that you commentate the competition the best. I don't think I'd be as in love with this game if I didn't feel the hype you provide. Thanks!

Magnus predicted that Vidit would do poorly
