South Africa's main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance (DA), says it has agreed a deal with the governing African National Congress (ANC) to form a government of national unity.

This comes after weeks of speculation about who the ANC would partner with after losing its parliamentary majority for the first time in 30 years, in last month's elections.

It got 40% of the vote, while the DA came second with 22%.

This paves the way for ANC leader Ramaphosa to remain president.

  • Imagine calling the Tories "...a brown lead party." A bit on the nose there, BBC.

If you gonna call the DA “white led” then start using race for all minority led parties. Tories are “Indian led”

"white-led..." so do you call your prime minister's party "black/brown-led"?
  • @FUBAR733
Why do they have to describe the DA as white led. That is just annoying.
  • As South Africa, we must embrace this historic change in our country! This is another new South Africa!

From Cape Town, I am cautiously optimistic but there is so much graft to clean up, it is going to take years to filter down the chain of government corruption.

Why are we still talking about apartheid? Do we ever talk about historical moments of post-Nazi Germany? Or post-Imperial Japan? Or historical moments of post-Communist Eastern Bloc countries?
  • The biggest support for the DA comes from black voters as whites only makes up 7% of SA population. So it is not a whites only party .
  • @Aurora-light01
O now you talk, what a joke DA is the most diverse party in South Africa!!!!!!!!!!! Go look at all the other parties and you will see that there is no diversity there.
