Do you know how to buy gold in Dubai and not get scammed? I'll show you, plus, how to test your gold at a lab to check that it's real.

Dubai is known for its luxurious shopping experiences, and one of the most sought-after items is gold jewellery. But with so many stores selling gold, it can be overwhelming to know where to buy and how to ensure that the gold is genuine. In this video, I'll show you everything you need to know about shopping for gold in Dubai and avoiding scams!

Is Dubai actually cheaper? What do you think? Here's what I spent on 1 pair of earrings:

Gold weight: 6g
Gold value: 1343 dirhams
Making charge: 277 (20.6%)
Tax (VAT 5%): 81 (69 tax back at airport)
Total: 1701 dirhams (with tax back: 1632 dirhams).

I think it works about the same price as India if buying designer pieces.

  • Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.

Being in the industry couple of things to mention. First is the making fee, lot of the time it may be very little to nothing on the machine made items however if you have anything detailed hand made or custom made you will have to pay the making fee. Secondly, the authentication I can tell you that bars can be fake no acid, machine or weight can detect the fake bars we often drill holes in them if they dont come from our trusted suppliers. However small jewellery can be authenticated by the machine.

The owner you spoke to - I've been buying from his stores for over 10 years and they always have (for me) the best quality jewellery. I know another owner who I also started purchasing from around 7-8 years ago when he had 2 small shops but now operates 16 stores around Gold Souq. The only thing you have to be careful with is when it comes to selling. Most shops will say there is a difference between the buying rate and the selling rate, but this is rubbish. The gold price is the same globally, so why should they offer you less than spot price when selling? The shops may say it's to lessen their risk in case the gold price falls the next day, but at the end of the day, that is a risk. What if I offered them less than spot price for buying because the gold price 'may' fall the next day, would they accept it? Of course not! So just be careful here and ensure they give you at least the global spot price when selling or trading in old gold. Oh and also, I always take a pair of over ear headphones as not to get inundated by the people that constantly approach you that try to sell you fake watches, handbags, t-shirts etc.
