Hyūga class helicopter destroyer | The fifty-year dream of the JMSDF

Published 2023-10-09
We are investigating the Hyūga-class helicopter destroyer of Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and its difference from the Izumo-class. #warship #destroyer #JMSDF

Due to some copyright issues, we had to remake our Hyūga-class helicopter destroyer video.

Do the Hyūga-class ships, JS Hyūga and JS Ise, have the same design philosophy as the Izumo-class vessels, JS Izumo and JS Kaga?
When did the dream, which paved the way for the Hyūga class, begin?
What are the offensive and defensive capabilities of the ship?
How much can the Hyūga class support other operation types effectively, such as amphibious assault and disaster relief?

Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books. They tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyses, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. You can find in our videos technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let's investigate the weapons together when the Second Cold War is rising.

This is a very clear and well organized explanation. It is politically difficult for JSDF to own a general carrier or an assault landing ship. The initial design of the Hyuga class shows this.

The Japanese constitution forbids offensive military action, so calling these flight-deck equipped ships 'destroyers' is also a way to fit them into Japanese military doctrine, since aircraft carriers are generally regarded as offensive weapon systems.

This is actually the most efficient configuration for an ocean ASW escort. The most lethal ASW weapon is the helicopter. To keep 1 helicopter in the air 24/7 requires a minimum of 3 birds. You are going to need a 9 frigates with 1 helicopter each to get the same ASW coverage as 1 Hyuga. Which is more cost effective?
  • Another wonderful video shared by respectful 🙏 ( Weapon detective) channel...video clearly explained all characteristics of Hyoga classes helicopter destroyers ( helicopter carriers) of self defense Navi of Japan...video also labeled to the historical backgrounds and cold War impacts for upgrading this naval piece ...thank you for sharing

Excellent video! Can you do the same with former HMS Ocean now NAM Atlântico, the Brazilian navy flagship?
  • now that the sanctions been relaxed, the JMSDF should consider acquiring a carrier strike force . . . for e.g. a fleet of three brand new Hiryū class 56,823 ton (63,092 ton loaded) stealth (CATOBAR) aircraft carrier powered by iFuelCell™ RedOX-HYBRId® M-FEP system . . . unit cost €4.3 Bn - €6.8 Bn (approx) . . . actual acquisition cost is variable, based on how many units are on order & equity market . . .
  • Guys, there is something that has made me curious until now. Why is every aircraft carrier bridge and the like always on the starboard and not the other way around?
  • @PrograError
IMO the classification is in the same veins as the Russians since the Montreux Convention for the Turkish Strait into the black sea restricts certain class of warships, basically mental gymnastic ...
