I spent a lot of time trying to get the syncing correct for the cannons in-game

I remember I did something similar to this one time when I played on Paris with a bunch of strangers, so what happened was that someone said in chat "do you hear that? It's the overture" which was immediately followed up by some guy saying "Here comes the good part". So after seeing this I decided to fire one of the controllable cannons sorta in tune to the music (note that I decided to fire when I thought it felt right to fire and not when the cannons should've been fired). And as soon as I did that someone else just yelled in chat "THEY FIRED IN SYNC WITH THE MUSIC!", and I guess this somehow caused the person who was controlling the other controllable cannon to fire sorta in sync as well. Eventually it somehow devolved (or evolved) into everyone shooting their muskets, pistols, blunderbuses and cannons sorta haphazardly in tune to the music. And somehow this actually worked in terms of killing all the zombies. We all only bailed out when the boat arrived, and a lot of the people in that server I played in (myself included) for some unknown reason actually managed to survive and jump on the boat to escape. It was one of the most (if not THE most) epic moments in gaming history that I have ever witnessed in person. Edit 1: I almost forgot to mention but after that round everyone in the server was super ecstatic to the point that several people were just yelling in chat things like "THEY DID IT! WE DID IT", "THAT WAS INCREDIBLE!", "WE PLAYED THE OVERTURE" and things like that. I think we made each other very happy that day.
