One of the most impressive places in Sri Lanka is Sigiriya, a site often named the 8th wonder of the world. Sigiriya was also home to an ancient city that sat atop the monolithic rock towering 650 feet over the town of Dambulla in the Matale District of Sri Lanka. The site attracts thousands of tourists daily and has been a UNESCO heritage site since 1982. Many believe that the giant monolithic rock looks unnatural because of its perfectly flat top, which almost looks like it's been cut at a precise angle. The locals believe this ancient site was built thousands of years ago by an ancient Hindu god, named Ravana, who was part of an advanced race of beings known as the Asura. These deities are said to have come down from the sky and ruled over portions of humanity. There are strange scoop marks and holes in the rock, and at the top, there are bricks, marble blocks, and an enormous granite water tank found in the middle of the site. How all of them were built and how ancient carried the materials to the top is still unexplained.

I am a Sri Lankan and a 16 year old student. As I was studying History I came across the part on the Sigiriya water foundations. I always grew interested in this so I came for more info on the internet. As a Sri Lankan I am filled with pride that the foreign population is recognizing the wonders of Sri Lanka at last.

Sigiriya is truly a marvel of ancient engineering and artistry. The advanced technology used to build this fortress is simply mind-boggling. From the intricate water gardens to the rock-carved architecture and polished Mirror Wall, the builders of Sigiriya were truly ahead of their time. The fact that the irrigation system still works to this day is a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the ancient Sri Lankan people. Moreover, the frescoes at Sigiriya are some of the best-preserved examples of ancient Sri Lankan art, and the level of detail and sophistication is astounding. The women depicted in the frescoes wear intricate jewelry and have elaborately styled hair and clothing. The fact that these paintings have survived for over a thousand years is remarkable, and speaks to the durability of the materials and techniques used. In my opinion, the evidence of advanced technology and artistry at Sigiriya is undeniable. It's a true testament to the creativity, skill, and ingenuity of ancient civilizations, and a reminder that there is so much we can learn from our past.

The royal palace of Sigiriya was entered through a path inside the Sigiriya rock. Stairs were not built outside Sigiriya because enemies were coming. It is said that there is another palace inside Sigiriya. It is said that after the British conquered Sri Lanka, they took all the antiquities there to Britain. Meanwhile, it is said that there were parts of the Sigiriya treasure. Later, the door is closed and the reason for closing the door is unknown. But they were cursed by Ravana for stealing the treasure of Sigiriya. Some of the antiques are in the British Museum and many are auctioned off among the world's richest men.

I’ve been there. It was awesome. Our history is much older than we think.
  • As a Sri Lankan, I have heard legends about an inner palace within the Sigiri rock, accessible through a cave gate located near the lion's foot. This cave gate provided access to a path leading from the inside of the rock to its peak. It is said that this path was used to transport bricks to the top of the rock. Currently, this pathway is hidden from the world, and there are rumors that it was sealed off secretly. According to legend, the path was closed by H.C.P Bell, a British Ceylon archaeologist. Thus, it is believed that there are two palaces, one inside the rock and one on top of it.

As a Sri Lankan, the one thing I appreciate more is the effort made to do justice to the pronunciation of names.

The Buddhist monks have kept written records of the history of Sri Lanka for well over two thousand years, much have been burned in last five hundred years but many still have verbal knowledge of the 3 star gates located in Sri Lanka; plus some have knowledge of the flying air crafts flown by Ravana that used mercury for propulsion. Go to some of the ancient sites and meet the monks that reside in these areas, they hold invaluable secrets of ancient times.
  • As a sri Lankan Canadian thank you sooo much for this 👑❤❤❤❤🇨🇦 it's so refreshing to finally show the world the REAL history. Your the best channel I follow!

I have read the entire story of Ramayana over 20 years ago, hence, this is so interesting to discover. There was an enlightened master in this modern lifetime who used to live during those ancient times. He lifted very heavy objects like elephants and small aeroplanes. He led meditationas at the UN for 37 years from 1970 till his demise in 2007. His name is Sri Chinmoy. I am one of his direct students.
