Judas Priest's Jugulator became the first band's studio album released with Tim "Ripper" Owens after Rob Halford left the band shortly after release of Painkiller. And while it was received extremely well by some Judas Priest fans, it was strongly disliked by others, and I believe not really because of Tim "Ripper" Owens. And so let's take a look at some of the lesser known facts about Judas Priest's thirteenth studio album Jugulator and hopefully answer the question of whether it actually is that bad.

I may be the minority, but I actually think Jugulator is sick🤘

"Cathedral Spires" is one of the best songs this band has ever done. Price of admission right there.
  • It frustrates me that this album isn't in back catalog on Spotify as I think it's a totally sick album and one of thier strongest.

Jugulator was and is a breath of fresh air, really. Heavy to the maximum! Almost a return to form and a continuation from the Painkiller era.

Nothing wrong with Jugulator. It's a great album, like Ripper is a great vocalist 🤘🤘

Jugulator is such a mastetpiece, I love it! Please make a vid about Tim Owens.

I love Jugulator. It’s an amazing album - great dark vibes and the most heavy riffs in bands discography is kind of natural continuation of Painkiller. And Tim is killing it - he fits here like a glove.

The title track is borderline Bay Area thrash, I love downtuned Priest. Tim's rendition of Diamonds and Rust on Live '98 Meltdown is one of the best performances I ever heard from a metal vocalist.

I wasn't happy when Halford left. But I was blown away by this album. I wasn't expecting it. I don't understand the hate.
  • Love this album! It’s more brutal, but miss the melodic twin guitar solos. Ripper have a great voice and fits excellent with old music. 8.5/10

very happy with Jugulator! nine heavy songs in a row, and then you have a fantastic heavy ballad called Cathedral Spires. The song is 9 minutes long and the perfect way to end the album. My favorite song on Jugulator is Abductors.

I love this album, bought it when it came out. Remember hearing Bullet Train in a promo CD before the release of the album and it blew my mind. Awesome record.

Happy they didn't pick Ralf, as Primal Fear, with Ralf, has brought me 1000s of hours of musical enjoyment.

Jugulator is actually what got me into Judas Priest. I would not have called myself a fan prior, though I did like Painkiller. I was curious about the singer change and gave the album a chance, and I really liked it. Though I do have a few thoughts about it. I fully believe that they knew coming out with a new singer would be a tough sell, so they decided to go as heavy as they could in order to blow the doors off anyone who was a skeptic. I think they came up with the harshest, most brutal lyrics they could, which resulted in some real groaners to be sure. I mean, "Decapitate" is just a song about getting your head cut off. Just silly, dumb shit. But getting past that (which I totally understand if people can't), there are some real bangers. Blood Stained, Burn in Hell, Abducted, Bullet Train, etc. Just killer songs. I think once they figured out Tim's ability better, they dialed in a better album with Demolition, which I think is an absolute masterpiece. I missed out on the chance to see them live during this era and have been kicking myself since.

Sadly, I am in the ' I took a break during the Ripper years', but after hearing and watching 'Live in London' , I love Ripper's contribution in revitalizing Priest with a huge young fan base, Rob should be thanking him everyday. Yes, please do a vlog on How Ripper was picked, others not.
