I’m only 16 and I am currently in recovery after a bunion surgery. It’s painful but it’s going to so worth it when it’s alll over

I am 29 yo and I have had bunions ever since I was a little girl. My grandma had em!

I wish I lived near Michigan because I'd definitely come in for a consultation. I appreciate you giving us nuanced info on managing bunions. 🙏🏻
  • @aj.meso26
You answered every single question I had 👏 I have a small bunion, not severe at all, and was glad to know the recovery time won’t be too long if I get surgery. Thank you for your insight!
  • @armor1z
I'm 37. I've had a bunion for as long as i can remember. My mom had one as well. Same right foot. My dad gave me high arches on top of that. I just saw a foot doctor yesterday to ask about surgery as i haven't had much luck with using splints, toe spreaders to attempt to naturally correct it. I'm constantly on my feet all day, i wear wide work boots and insoles for my high arches. I really don't want to do a surgery to correct it but I'm about at my wits end with it. My balance is messed up because on both feet I'm basically standing on tripods with my high arches.

My daughter's started growing at 7. At 14 they were removed and feet straightened. The pain she endured was excruciating. Shoes were not the reason. Doctor mentioned he had never seen such a young severe case in all his years of practice.

I’m getting this done in August as well as a heel and my baby toe fixed both on the same foot

I must also say the hardest part of it is to manage the recovery, to rely on people. You cant drive, cant walk very good, cant cook cant go shopping groceries and so on.... I had the luck my girlfriend was with me and i thank her more than anything, managing everything for about 1-2 months. After 3 months and 1 week i was able to make my first step in the shower. But still Bunion surgery was the best thing i could do and recommend it if nothing else is helping your pain or aesthetic. I had pain but it was managable. Mine went from a mild variant (genetic, thanks mom) into a severe one cause of an accident in school back in the days. I then incorrectly charged it for weeks and had a bit of a limp when i was 13 years. I absolutely hated the look of it since i was only 24 (Im 26 now) years old and a male. The pain of the surgery itself was not painful at all, of course it is not the best feeling but pain can be very different from person to person. But i must say i was extremely dazed since we got good healthcare in Germany. Im also an Natural Bodybuilder since 16 years old. I still can Squat heavy, i can walk forever, sprint, jump etc. Only pain i have is on the non-operated foot were i have a mild hallux valgus with fallen arch.

My bunion pain isn’t at the bunion site but at the metatarsal-cuneiform joint. My surgeon doesn’t recommend lapidus surgery bc it can decrease mobility w/ the fusion
  • @DrTomBiernacki
Thanks for watching, let us know if that helped or didn't help?
  • I had my first bunion surgery nine years ago. It was an ideal recovery, however, it was very long (just like he said.) I don't regret it at all because the bunion was causing me pain. I just had my second surgery 2.5 weeks ago. It's been a very different experience. Same procedure as the first one but my pain level has been minimal. I'd call it more of a discomfort. I haven't needed narcotic pain meds at all, just Tylenol occasionally. I attribute a lot of this to the fact that I am in better shape now. I began doing yoga and have benefited both mentally and physically. I know I still have a long road to full recovery, but I'm on my way!

Thank you SO much for this video. I have moderate bunions that are painful at times, and I found a doctor that does minimally invasive surgery, but he says he doesn't use screws or plates, only taping and splints. I am nervous about this because then, how does the bone hold up? I dont understand. He is very popular and was thinking about going to him, but this video made me rethink my decision. How can MIFS be done without screws? Im afraid i have more chances of the bunions coming bavk since they ate genetic, and I have somewhat of a flat foot. Any advice?

I have a bunion on my right foot, I have been working in a factory building cars on an assembly line(temporary position) for two years . I’ve had a sore that won’t heal on my second toe due to the big toe pressing against it ( I’ve had the sore for about three months) I wear steel toed shoes at work. I don’t know how to get this sore to heal I have to keep a bandage on my second toe where the sore is. I have not seen a doctor yet due to I am starting this job as a Full time employee soon. I need some sort of temporary fix, what can I do? Thank You in advance (I also do not have diabetes)
  • @Speed-Gvng
I think I just need a clean out. I'm hoping it's not a bunion cause that's why I'm thinking. I've been in this pain for awhile and I tried fixing it but I got no results. I hope they fix it cause I'm really scared of this healthcare crisis we have
  • @user-it2ld6ec1d
Been advised by my surgeon not to take NSAID's for pain e.g. ibuprofen because they interfere with bone healing. Also recommend surgery if possible during winter months, very frustrating if you are a gardener and can't enjoy the gardening and lovely weather!!!! Also, request 2 surgical boots!!! One only causes lop sided walking which causes musculoskeletal problems. I needed to wear surgical boots for 7 weeks. Ideally also a pair for indoors and outdoors so you don't mess up your floor/ carpets.I had right foot done 4 years ago and have just had left one done. Recovery much slower this time and swelling and bruising much worse. I am 28 days post op. Patience is definitely wearing thin !!!

I have even lost feeling in my big toe because of nerve damage from this bunion they told me even after surgery I’ll never have feelings again
