Should You Pull The Arms In The Downswing?

Published 2024-06-21
We ALL know you need to get your hands to go really fast in the downswing to produce a lot of clubhead speed. But, how and when you use the arms is critical if you want to play good golf.

I'd like to think the 3+ minute into is considered informative. For those that don't like intros and just want the drill, here are the timestamps: 0:00 - Intro What and Why 3:42 - Step 1 9:06 - Step 2 13:57 - Step 3
  • This is sweet! I can feel all of the blood rush down to my left hand when you let er rip. Great instruction and check points to allow yourself the next move. Well done!
  • I like these videos which are perfect for what I'm working on. After golfing inconsistantly for years I decided to finally fix my weight transfer issues. One thing that is helping me is to start the swing i shift weight from right to left and back to start the swing. It gives me the back and forth feeling that seems to help me.

Loving your videos, man I have learned more information about proper sequencing from your instruction in this 1 video than I have the past 2 years researching and watching 100s of others to try and piece everything together. Simple, clear and easily translatable to practice drills and the full swing, thanks a million kind sir! As a 19 Cap I'll be practicing these drills non-stop
  • Thank you for the always insightful content. For this sequence, are there nuances to the drill depending on if I have an one place or two plane swing?

I like how in detail it is, but not 100 percent sure wich way you "pull the bicep towards the chest" for me that sounds like internal rotation and i think you are showing external rotation of the upper arm, please clarify😢

So have u guys measured tour pro hand speed from the top

Another great video Chris. So this shoulder movement happens at the same time the belt buckle goes below the line from Sequencing The Golf Swing Made Easy (Part 2) | Downswing Power Move? These lessons really link together well. Thanks again.
  • Can you get Jas to gain 50 lbs and show me the motion again with his gut in the way so I can relate? Another first, understanding why just throwing the arms down is working against me. Never heard that before in thousands of videos.

Bryson says he gets a lot of his power from his lat muscles which he uses to pull the club down very very fast. He came second in long drive worlds last year and the US open last week
  • So, I'm not clear, did you say it's okay to keep totally passive arms and just use the legs and hips, because when I do that I get way more club head speed than I did when I was using a right hand hit swing, and it gives me less to think about.

Regarding the greatest golfers of all time - more than just a couple of them had a raised lead heel.
