A couple months ago, our patrons (www.patreon.com/thecharismaticvoice) had me listen to John Farnham's "You're The Voice" which was an eye and ear opening experience for me. Our Australian fanbase came out in droves and helped steer me towards this Beatles cover of "Help" and I couldn't be more impressed. This is one of the best covers I've ever heard!

Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to John Farnham performing "Help" by The Beatles for the first time.

As an Aussie watching these reactions you realise just how blessed we've been to have watched John's career unfold before our eyes.

Correct me if I’m wrong, this song is second encore after a 2 1/2 hour performance. Simply amazing 😊

How have I not known him until now??? I fell in love when he smiled at the audience in the very beginning. FELL IN LOVE!!!!

He is (singing aside) what we used to call an entertainer. He sings, jokes, interacts, includes and invites his audience into the moment. He is the cosumate entertainer. He is also a very funny and engaging bugger, off stage. He took the time on a sunny saturday afternoon outside a Sydney restaurant to sit and chat with my then 70+ year old parents and their friends, after he saw that they recognised him but were clearly too shy to come to him and talk say hello... so he went to them. 10 mins out of his time but a lifetime of a moment for mum & dad and friends on a weekend trip to Sydney. He is the best.

As an Australian it honestly makes me tear up seeing so many international people discover John Farnham - he is an absolute unrivaled legend and deserves all the love in the world. This is definitely on the list of "Covers better than the originals".

John Farnham was a teenage pop star in the 1960's. In 1985 he was considered a has been and could not get a label to record him. His manager mortgaged his house to record Whispering Jack (the album that preceded this tour) staking everything to support his long time friend and they showed that popularity does not always mean that ultimate talent is displayed. He's an Australian icon who, while it appears he has beaten his health crisis, will probably never perform again. Thanks for everything you gave us John Farnham!

'When Something is Wrong with My Baby', a duet with Jimmy Barnes is impressive from both gentlemen. There are different versions on YT from later in his career, but it was a released few years after the 1988 Full House tour version of 'Help'. He also played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar in the 90s. His 'Gethsemane' is breath-taking and my default version of it. He is a national beloved icon in Australia. He is one of our greatest artists, with a vocal range comparable to the greats like Freddie Mercury but apart from a handful of songs, he isnt well known outside of here. I hope you look at more of his stuff. He has had an impressive career. While he was successful in his teens and 20s, he faded into near-obscurity before his album 'Whispering Jack' (some 20 years later) made him a megastar.
  • @Roddrummer
I feel like he's the best kept vocal secret of the entire world, and now, decades later, when he's in his 70s and battling ill health, the rest of the world is finally catching up....

Around 20 or so years ago, Australia was experiencing some very bad droughts on the Eastern side of the country. John decided to do a series of concerts up and down the East Coast, and in the affected rural areas, to raise money for the drought affected areas. 60 minutes Australia did a story on the tour as something strange was happening. Almost everywhere he performed, it rained, earning him a new nickname, The Rainman. Whilst 60 minutes was recording footage of a concert for the story, they were filming a song called 'Talk of the Town', which, ironically, is about drought breaking rain, it began to pour down with rain. Just thought I'd like to share that.

I'm a 60 year old man, and I've loved Johny all my life. He's a fairdinkum, down to earth bloke. And to watch you react, and appreciate him for the mam, the singer he was, brought tears to my eyes. What a great man!
  • I am a 58 year old classical music teacher and appreciate brilliance when I hear , I am ashamed I i have never heard of this man until now , this is stunning
  • @meganey2263

Great news, guys!!! John Farnham, one year on from cancer surgery, has been declared cancer free!! I'm so happy today! ❤❤❤
  • My wife and I were at a horse riding competition, western and stock work. Sitting on the grass hill at the back of the arena and a lady was riding her horse in and about to compete Out of the crowd comes a melodic super strong voice yelling "You got this babe, just like in practice !" It was John and his wife was riding. sn unmistakable voice !
  • How in the Hades am I just hearing about this guy?!? What an incredible voice and stage presence!
  • @pepeleperth
Im not sure it's been mentioned. This was the ENCORE performance after a full concert. The man was legit a legend ! One of his infamous warm-ups was Black Dog by Led zeppelin. Sadly, there is no vision, but the audio is absolutely next level!!!
  • Incredible. I have never heard of him before now. Top 5 voices I have ever heard.
  • @miskokinoo
This guy, I'm speechless. Just a few seconds in and I'm holding back tears...well, at least I try to hold them back. I don't know. Just thankful for people like him. Makes me glad to be alive, which in this world doesn't happen to me very much. F'n love this guy.
