They DID change sneak attack. It now only works on your turn, meaning you can't use a reaction on another turn and get sneak attack on that damage roll if relevant.
  • My favorite part of the video is when Bob says "It's Ranging time" and then turns into a power ranger
  • I very much like the idea of Bards healing people when they get dropped, as if they inspire you to gather the strength to carry on fighting, even if you're on death's door.
  • I know that feeling of like "Oh, I was thinking like the designers! I was one step ahead!" I've been doing a home rule where two weapon fighting doesn't take your bonus action. Lo and behold, it gets added to One D&D. Good feeling.

The Search action is not a new action, it's in the PHB on page 193, and is also something dragons can spend a Legendary Action to do.

As a bard player I wanted to defend the inclusion of the inspiration heal. My favorite part of the class is that I get to be a powerful toolkit caster that heals. And while yes clerics are known to be the Archetypal healer, my bard fantasy has always been to be able to help my allies make that last push to victory.
  • I can't believe you didn't mention the biggest, most impactful bard change: no more counter charm! this will drastically change how bards play.
  • @pdubb9754
I think the inspiration healing is actually a very bardy thing. Like a cheerleader trying to elevate the team when the chips are down. Flavorwise, this maybe doesn't look like wounds knitting to keep you from leaking out. More of a "hang in there" - gutcheck moment. I think it could be limited to a once a day thing though. If used frequently, it cheapens the drama.

I think the fact that most people never get to level 20 is why they moved the capstone feature to level 18... not that many people get to level 18, either. Another bonus is that you can dip 2 levels into a second class without missing out on that capstone, now.
  • The exhaustion rules are so good i feel like I could just give out exhaustion a lot more heavily, maybe whenever your reduced to zero hp you take exhaustion and monsters give it out too.
  • The 4 class categories is a throwback to AD&D 2e. Good to see some of the earlier editions still have an influence.
  • I always look forward to your posts. I’m so glad you’re a YouTube creator. I hope you’re doing well! Thanks for all the community interaction you do!

I think the big change with the bardic inspiration is that it now depends on YOU seeing or hearing them, before I think the other character/creature needed to see or hear you, which flavor-wise makes a lot more sense, but would make the idea of a character going down and the bard healing them immediately with a reaction impossible, not sure what to think about it
  • Level 20 one shots are great! I usually run it like suicide squad/the expendables. I really like that bards can heal, it fits the jack of all trades theme and gives you an option if no one in the party wants to play a cleric.
  • @mcphadenmike
I so appreciate your even-keeled responses to this play test material. It is a wonderful respite from other places online where everyone seems to have their hair on fire!
  • having played multiple lvl 20 campaigns, i appriciate the changes they are making
  • Sneak Attack HAS changed hasn't it. It now says on "each of your turns when you take the attack action" this means you can't sneak attack on a reaction oportunity attack. I think it's minor most rogues won't be in range as I'd expect them to disengage and move.
  • 1:48 - beneath class groups it does say that Artificer will fall into the Expert catagory - big sigh of relief for all us artificer fans! P.s love the quick review and notes here! P.s p.s no better time to play 20th level than to try out epic level boons 😁
  • @jameshwren
That makes SILENCE a much more serious spell for blocking the 'hearing'.
