Muta: "Terry was a genius" Terry in the afterlife: "your Dam right you tech scammer with a hat"

Terry Davis once said "An idiot admires complexity, a genius admires simplicity. An idiot, the more complicated something is, the more he will admire it. If you make something so clusterfucked he can't understand it, he's gonna think you're a god because you made it so complicated, nobody can understand it. That's how they write academic journals. They try to make it so complicated people think they're a genius." This man was truly genius, very genius.

To me, as a fellow schizophrenic, Terry is both terrifying since he could be the worst case scenario of my own life, and the way he was just left behind by the healthcare system and those around him fills me with sadness, but the fact that he managed to channel his energy into something so impressive which will outlast him by decades is also somewhat inspiring. If he could do so much while suffering from psychosis and being completely unmedicated and otherwise without any support, it suddenly doesn't seem as impossible to go on with all the help I thankfully have access to.

Terry made his entire operating system and programming language in the same time when yanderedev couldn't finish half of a simple game
  • @Splendoid
Terry was overclocking his brain without having enough cooling

RIP Terry :( Someone should manage to port DOOM (classic) into TempleOS to kill demons in Gods operating system, the purest DOOM experience.
  • That "I like elephants and God likes elephants" part made me tear up a bit.
  • @JustinY.
Man, DownTheRabbitHole really showed how tragic the story behind TempleOS was.

"When my bird was looking at my computer monitor, i thought, That bird has no idea what he's looking at. and yet, what does the bird do? does he panic? no...he can't really panic. He just does the best he can."-TerryDavis

Muta, you probably won’t see this but your kindness and compassion towards him means so much to me. I have schizoaffective disorder (schizophrenia + depressive states) and the stigma can be really scary. but i am so glad you can see past his illness. disorders on the schizophrenia spectrum can be hell but they truly make a beautiful and unique mind. i am happy to be who i am :)
  • "Bioluminescent African American Federal Agents" has to be the best euphemism ive ever heard.
  • @A7LAization
Every time I code I feel that I'm not worthy, I hear Terry Davis calling me an amateur for not writing my own compiler. RIP terry
  • @NickMick9
Bioluminescent African American federal agents is the funniest phrase I have heard in ages. Thank you for that.

"...when my bird was looking at my computer monitor, I thought 'woah, that bird has no idea what he's looking at'. And yet, what does the bird do, does he panic? No, he can't really panic, he just does the best he can. Is he able to live in a world where he's so ignorant? Well, he doesn't really have a choice. Yeah, he can kinda live...usually the bird's okay, even though he doesn't understand the world, and he can kinda learn what's safe and what's dangerous. So uh, that's where I've been living." -Terry A. Davis

Terry has: - created his own programming language based on C - the HolyC - built his own kernel - built his own goddamn fully functioning operating system You can say all you want and I have spent time professionally knowing people with psychosis and I can tell you, he is goddamn smart. Imagine what he could have accomplished if he wasn't psychotic.

"an idiot admires complexity, a genius admires simplicity" rest in peace god's chosen programmer, the world wasn't ready for you
  • @hansstrudel9614
It’s a shame that Terry went off the deep end. From what I remember he was actually a really successful programmer before the schizophrenia kicked in and made him go full “vehicular homicide on luminescent federal intelligence agents with high melanin levels”. The man seriously wound up like Tesla, a highly under appreciated genius with a lot of mental issues that wound up dying alone, penniless, and uncared for.
