Dumb and Dumber is a 1994 American buddy comedy film directed by Peter Farrelly, who cowrote the screenplay with Bobby Farrelly and Bennett Yellin. It is the first installment in the Dumb and Dumber franchise. Starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, it tells the story of Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) and Harry Dunne (Daniels), two dumb but well-meaning friends from Providence, Rhode Island, who set out on a cross-country trip to Aspen, Colorado, to return a briefcase full of money to its owner, thinking it was abandoned as a mistake though it was actually left as a ransom. Lauren Holly, Karen Duffy, Mike Starr, Charles Rocket, and Teri Garr play supporting roles.

Clint Eastwood once told Jeff Daniels that the toilet scene was the funniest thing he had ever seen since it actually happened to him IRL
  • Another Fun Fact: According to the Farrelly brothers, Jeff Daniels wasn't wanted for the film, but Jim Carrey wanted him in it. In order to ensure a no from him, they offered Daniels $50,000 for the role. He accepted without any hesitation nor did he attempt to negotiate, despite insistence from his agent the film would "kill his career." By 1994, the film was Daniels' most successful.
  • "We have NO food, we have NO Money, and our PET'S HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!!!" is the funniest ajd memorable line ever.

Jim Carrey had this, Ace Ventura and The Mask in the same year. Most people are lucky to have one iconic movie in a decade. He had three in one year.

Fun fact about the film. Sea Bass is played by Cam Neely, a winger who used to play for the Boston Bruins. He even admitted during on a podcast that the scene where he runs into Jim Carrey at the truck stop bathroom, he had to do like 30 takes because the reaction he was given wasn’t surprising enough. After a brief conversation with him, the very next take, Jim Carrey ended up mooning him and Cams reaction to it was the take they used.
  • "We successfully mated a bulldog with a shih tzu. We called it a 'bullshit.'" I don't care what anyone thinks, but this was the funniest line in the film.
  • Another Fun Fact: During filming, Jim Carrey stayed the night at the Stanley Hotel and requested to stay in the infamous room 217 (Stephen King's: The Shining). According to the tour guide at the hotel, about three hours after Carrey went to sleep, he came running out of the room and left the hotel. To this day, he vows to never go back and won't tell anybody why.

I love "The Most Annoying Sound in the World" scene simply because it wasn't in the script and it shows on Jeff Daniels' face! 🤣🤣🤣

It's interesting that Rob Paulsen voiced the Jim Carrey roles in the Ace Ventura, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber cartoons; and he does ADR for Jim Carrey in his movies.

I remember my dad telling me about when he went to see it with my grandparents, and my grandpa was laughing so hard they thought that they would need to call an ambulance. Dumb or not, this film is a comedic masterpiece

"30...I hate time." Yeah, me too, Critic
  • @karrihart1
Dustin Hoffman told Jim Carrey that the Harry/Lloyd relationship was one of the best friendship portrayals he'd ever seen in a movie.
  • @OctacleEdits
Fun fact: the female criminal is played by Karen Duffy, who you may remember best for playing the woman in Blank Check who kisses an 11-year-old boy on the lips… BAD TOUCH!
  • @kingoftherain
My favourite joke will always be the one that's only suggested. If they'd actually end up together, she would be called Mary Christmas.
  • The scene I laughed HARDEST at was when Lloyd accidentally killed one of the bad guys endangered owls on display at the Tuxedo WildLife Charity Social with a champaign cork
  • My favorite scene: is when Harry throws the snowball like a baseball at Mary's face and the sound they used. Most underrated line: We don't have enough money to eat, we don't have enough money to SLEEP!
