Today we explore a micro canal in the urban area of phoenix AZ. These tiny canals usually hold a ton if fish! Let us see what we can find!

Never pass up a small roadside area to fish, you really never know what you are bound to run into. These little drainage ditches, and tiny canals run all over the place.

Drop a good ole worm in there next time you pass by and you may be surprised!

Back in 1959 I was wandering the irrigation canals of Phoenix for catfish and frogs.

We’re spoiled in Florida, I’ll never complain about our fishing spots again .Glade to see fishing everywhere and anywhere. Fish on!

Two ideas for bait to try there. One is simple - Green Giant niblet corn. Niblets are harder than normal canned corn. Easy to stack on a hook. - Wheaties. Take a box of Wheaties cereal. Open the box and crush the cereal to a rough powder. Pour the powder into an old sock. Soke the sock in the river water. Squeeze the water out of the sock. Invert the sock and pull out the ball of Wheaties dough. Press the dough into a pancake like object on a flat surface in the sun and let it dry out for 15 minutes. Break off chunks of the pancake and ball up onto a hook. Dough should be sticky like playdough. Carp and catfish go nuts for that.
  • Nothing like a fishin magician video after a long high school graduation ceremony and dinner party. Class of 2024 baby! 🧑‍🎓🎉

I spent a day in Northern Mesa with a gentleman who was fishing the canals to feed his family of 12. None of the fish he caught looked even remotely healthy, but he said they were so much better than the fish he would catch in Mexico City.

I fish pike, specifically targeting large fish, but I also have fun fishing Carp with my little girl using bread and corn. A very intelligent and elusive fish at times, and they put up a great fight.

Used to go all the time with my mom behind the hospital on Southern & Dobson. We've caught all kinds of bass, sunfish, blue gill out of there, plenty of cats and I actually landed a walleye once as well. My kiddos loved canal fishing with my mom.

I used to do a night watch on some of the areas that they were maintaining and fixing, but I did not know they had a lot of these areas that were right out in the open. I thought they were all fenced off, but I did see a lot of big fish in there, and when they overflow, they leave a lot from sea urchins I guess or whatever you call them snails , but there are tons of shells, laying all over the place

That is nuts that there is a variety of fish in those canals. I would have not thought anything would be living in them but there they are, thriving. Would be so fun to have the canal in you back yard and practice fishing whenever you wanted to.

I used to have that sense of good fishing before I retired last year. Now? I've found myself again. I'm a-gunna do some Fishin' in some cleaner waters!
