One of the best movies ever, I never get bored of watching this. I couldn't imagine it being any different.

Eric Stoltz looks like a teen from the 90's stuck in a 80's sci-fi movie.
  • @queenbee2371
Definitely only one person who could play Marty! We love you Michael xx
  • I saw , Back to the Future , in 1985 in theatre located in Queens New York. Audience was deeply immersed in the movie. Every shot with Michael J Fox in it enthralled the audience.

Michael J. Fox was great in Back to the future but Eric Stoltz was amazing as Rocky Dennis in Mask which I consider one of the best movies of the 80's. I used to watch both of those movies over and over again as a kid.

Now that I think of it, what could have been a mind bender is a BTF film where Michael J Fox as Marty goes back in time, inadvertently jeopardizes his own existence via chance encounter with Lorraine. Then, knowing the danger, he gets his parents back together, but the new present day 1985 changes. Marty wakes up to find that now he’s alive, but in the corpus of Eric Stolz.
  • I remember walking out of the theatre not realizing until outside i knew more than half the people in the theatre... We all were blown away as if we just were on a 2 hour fabulous roller coaster ride... We all knew we just saw a classic...No one else could've played Marty... Thank you Michael J Fox...!

My favorite movie too! No matter how many times I watch the movies or behind the scenes stuff about it, I never get tired of it! I hope they will release more Stoltz footage, I am curious as to what more of it looked like. But yes I hope they never remake this gem! It's perfect as it is!
  • It’s amazing how much footage/ screenshots you were able to track down with Eric stoltz playing Marty. I realise there’s now lots of little clips online but you found so many other still images I hadn’t seen before from other scenes. It seriously changed the past! Great video.
  • Michael J. Fox is Marty McFly! My name is Marty, and all my life growing up people use to yell at me, "Hey McFly!" 😆
  • @Simon_SM
Honestly, the movie with him would be kinda good too, but in a different way The movie with him would have a darker and more serious theme But Michael J Fox did it amazingly and I love that he played Marty

One of the eternal classics I was privileged to see in the theater, along with Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Alien.

If you look at Eric's and Michael's performances side-by-side, you can see the difference in the chemistry of the other actors with Michael. You can see it in their expressions.

Such a cool perspective, Zemeckis going "back in time" to change the future of his film. It fits like a glove! Thanks for a great review of one particular aspect of arguably the best time travel movie ever filmed! I loved your thoughts, gleamed over a period of decades, from the "wow! factor" as a little kid to the view of an experienced actor and director in your own right. Thanks for the memories, and don't forget to “Be excellent to each other.”

When 2015 came around, and they released the Back to the Future DVD set, of course I had to buy it! It still feels al little surreal that 2015 has come and gone. In '85, it was exciting to think about whether 2015 was going to be like it was in BTTF II. It was close enough!
  • @lilane259
The first two BTTFs mean so much to me that I have made them my birthday present to myself every few years. I make a weekend of it when I can, and watch the whole trilogy, inevitably, even though I am not so hot for III. I owe MJF my childhood
  • @hi2hai
Thank you for this! I knew of the change and that Stoltz wasn't a good fit, but never knew why. You clips and examples shed a lot of light. Bravo!
  • @SuperToughnut
Michael J Fox brings charisma and magic to everything he is in. A phenomenal energy. I imagine he is a muse for everyone else on the set or anywhere he is.
