Hurricane Ian devastated my area. Luckily I had Tesla Solar and Powerwalls to provide backup power to my entire house, my Tesla, and even my neighbors. Please watch my experience. Everyone needs Tesla Solar and Powerwalls.

This was such a a good story. I tell people that installing your own power system is not about saving money.
  • Great that it worked out for you after such an experience. That is what you paid for and it is great to hear this. I have had 13.2kw solar for 6 years now and just put 2 x Powerwall's onto the system. Such a relief to know that we have our own 'power station'.   The questions of 'is solar worth it' or the whole battery thing to me makes absolutely NO sense. Our solar is now paid off, has genuinely paid for itself and the batteries will pay for themselves over time, but we have fridges, freezers, hot water, lights, TV all working in a blackout, but importantly the system will power the house and charge up the Powerwall's the next day, regardless of what the grid is doing, infinitely. This is priceless. I say to people all the time who query even just solar, I say to them, 'what do we buy in our life that actually pays for itself'. Almost nothing. Everyone who can, should get solar & everyone who has solar should get a battery or 2. We are now self sufficient with water and electricity. Fantastic. Great video. Greetings from Australia.

Glad you are doing ok and thank you for sharing this full story of what happened with your Tesla solar and Powerwalls.

My 14.5kW/h solar panels plus my 3 PowerWall 2s allowed me to survive comfortably through the hurricane (it was down to a cat 1 by the time it got to my house) for 29 hours of no grid power. I had no major damage to my home and actually worked from my home each day through the storm. I lost wired internet as well as the grid power during the storm so I worked with my mobile phone as a hotspot which was very slow since everyone else in the area could also only use their mobile phones. I had stocked up on drinking water from my faucet (fill your bath tub and get some igloo coolers and fill them as well) so water was no issue. I had previously turned the breakers off for my pool equipment since I had drained the pool down more than a foot to keep the rain from overflowing it. All I did was turn up the air conditioner temp a little so that it would not run as often and used everything else as normal. My home was fine and the power and internet came back on the day after the storm. My PowerWalls were at 65% when the grid power came back on and never got below 45% the entire time.

Thanks for the video. I was looking for videos to see how Tesla Powerwalls work with hurricanes. I still think you done the right thing turning off everything. You never know the extent of the electrical damage. Sometimes you can't visually see all damage.

Glad you were ok. I can some what relate to your experience because I had to live through the big texas outage back in 2021, luckily I too had tesla solar panels and 3 powerrwalls. My family had power the whole time while the outage occurred. We also had hybrid water heaters as well that only consumed roughly 300 watts if my memory serves me right. This saved energy consumption on my powerwalls even further. For your house upgrades, I would recommend getting hybrid water heaters, that will help your power walls greatly the next time around.

    Amazing story! Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting scenario, thanks for sharing. First video I have watched where someone described a Hurricane as a solar panel cleaning solution. Did hear that roofs with solar faired much better in areas of Florida, as the brackets/hardware/fasteners create a better secured roof than just a bare roof. News even showed some houses where the area with the panels installed looked fine, but the areas on the same roof without panels were stripped down to the plywood.

Thanks for taking the time to share and document the story, especially during what must’ve been incredibly stressful circumstances. Learned a lot and happy I got my powewalls

In a similar vein to ROI of powerwalls; We have a natural gas whole home generator. When the power was out for 3 days in winter, and you have heat, electricity, well water.... after one use it feels like it has paid for itself (though technically it hasn't).

I live in the same area and I have Enphase My panels and battery worked very well. But did learn not to let them get below 10%. Cause it did almost the same thing, I had to reset the system in order to get it back up and running.
  • @johnnywang206
You tell a good story. Glad you were able to jump the power walls.
  • We live in Florida, too. On the east coast. We just got solar panels installed and are waiting for FPL to change out the meter head. I talked to Tesla today about the powerwall. Glad I watched this video of yours. I was kind of on the fence about getting the wall. I, too, have a Tesla, model y tho. I'm thinking about 1 powerwall for my 26 panels. Thanks for the great video Bob

Family of 5, also 5 bedroom house, in australia, has been running almost entirely from solar and powerwall, since august.
  • So, i have power wall and panels connected but, app not showing solar production. Hope you can help me with this issue.
