  • I was homeless because I was broken. I grew up feeling different but had no idea I had such horrifying anxiety and depression until I was 34. I’ll be 36 this month… I was addicted for 20 years and homeless for a few of them… manipulated enough rehabs and 3/4 houses to have residency a lot of that time. Now that I’m diagnosed and properly treated, I’m still an introvert, but now I’m with the love of my life, I have a great job, my family life is rebuilt… just celebrated a year and a half clean this month. Anything is possible.
  • Never judge a person on the five seconds you have known them, walk a mile in their shoes. There is a life time before you met them.
  • I can feel the anguish in Jeff's voice as he relates the tragedy of how some people become homeless. They are not bad people, just victims of bad circumstances.

I was 13. My mother and her fiancé were killed. Abused by my father until 15. Foster care until 16. Attempted suicide at 20. Struggled my way through life until 25 when I got pregnant. From the first ultrasound, this bon of mine forever changed my life. He gave me purpose. I’m now a born again mother of 4 and thank god for the life I have. My childhood was awful. But it’s not my crutch or excuse for bad behavior anymore. The ugly abusive cycle stopped with me. My children will never feel the uglyness of what I did.
  • I moved out when I was 16 because of family struggles. Parents didn't want me around anymore. I changed my ways. Got married. Had two wonderful babies and work my fingers to the bone for them kids every day. Eventually saved enough to buy 4 acres with a 1800sq ft ranch home on it. Completely remodeled everything for the families comfort. If I can make it anyone can. I'm 34 about to be 35 and Ive built my dream
  • I was in hospice for 6 weeks during my second battle out of 5 battles with cancer. I was to proud and didn't want to ask for help so I went to live in the woods. Being around homeless people that just didn't care that they were homeless really opened my eyes.
  • That type of trauma brought chills to my soul instantly…😢

I asked a homeless guy for his story for a beer. He was a engineer for IBM had a wife 3 kids, one was a year old. He was driving the family back home after visiting his parents so they could meet the "new" addition. He fell asleep at the wheel, crashed, He was the only survivor. Lost his family, then his job, then his home. I bought him a 2nd beer and gave him a few quarters to call his sister he hadn't talked to for 6 years. She answered, he....and pretty much the rest of the bar cried. His story was messed up, but hopefully reconnecting with family helped him.

My brother is homeless, he says all 4 of his siblings are dead (we're not), he says his daughter has nothing to do with him (he has no daughter) and he says his wife died ( he's never been married) We tried to help him and he refused all help.
  • I feel this on a personal level. God bless anyone who hurts so much they feel they have to escape anyway possible

I was homeless for almost 20 years. Never drank or did drugs. I'm a war veteran that experienced a mass casualty event. God has been real to me every step of the way.

Once I realized people weren't addicts because of "fun" but pain, it gave me a totally different perspective. I never looked down on another addict again.

I can' never understand why some people just don't have empathy for the homeless. This could happen to anyone. Never forget where you come from and when you see a homeless person, it's not because they are lazy, it's because they had a horrific experience that bought them to their knees and affected their life and all they need is someone who will help them get their life back.
  • I was raised conservative in a very conservative community. I heard this quite often, that it really got me thinking that the foundation of laziness is pain. And some of us deal with pain differently. We don't all come out of the same mold. As children of God, it is our job to help our brothers and sisters who have faced circumstances that they could not control or deal with. No judgment. Just help.

There is so much pain in the world that we shouldn't have time to be evil to one another. You never know what a person has been through. The story is heartbreaking. 😢 I hope he is doing better.
  • He's wearing an Atlanta Missions shirt. The Potter's House saved my life. Which is apart of Atlanta Missions.
