For parents who want to be intentional about how their children are formed, homeschooling is often attractive, yet for many families it can seem like an impractical pipe dream. Today I sit down with Sarah Mackenzie, founder and host of Read-Aloud Revival, to discuss all things homeschooling. We discuss many of the common hesitations people have to homeschooling, the familial benefits of a shared learning environment, the importance of intergenerational education, how to homeschool if both parents have to work, many resources for homeschooling, and much more.

  • Don't be afraid to try homeschooling. I am in my 20th year of it and I would do it all over again and again. You get to know your kids in a very deep way and you get to learn along side of them. If it doesn't work out for you, you can always send them back to school!

“And he made it enough”! Instant tear shedding words. I homeschool four little girls and I’ve come up from a completely broken home myself. I know this is meant to be a trial that helps my children and I grow and I know this is what God wants of me! However, I am guilty of many things and some days I don’t believe I am qualified for this at all and think my babies would be better if in the hands of people I really don’t trust. The devil is a liar!!! This woman’s words really helped me and I will hold that in my heart !!
  • An overwhelmed and unqualified mom is 50 x better than the school system.

I’m a mom of 7 kids from 10 to 11 months homeschooling my kids. I love her thoughts of how God can work through my efforts even if they’re not perfect. Thank you

It is challenging when taking care of lil ones that can not sit for more than 20 mins. I remember last year dictating some words to my oldest one and at the same potty training my youngest! Its tough. Washing dishes, clothes, cleaning but it's totally worth it. The love and connection built is amazing. I love how they are a grade ahead, happy amd comfortable. Zero fear! I would love public schools and some teachers are amazing!! I dont trust things they have tried to push to kids not by teachers but the educational system. As a mother I wanted to give it a try, enjoy the time and their presence. Im sacrificing my career but this is the time to be with my kids and make great memories. It is hard sometimes but worth it! And yes, I constantly question am I doing too much or too little. But thank God we started with a homeschool hybrid which helps a lot.

Thank you for having her on your podcast this was very encouraging for me
  • Yes I just posted a video about how we homeschool and how it’s different for every single family and every single child! And that at the end of the years we won’t regret homeschool. I have five kids 7 and under, pregnant with twins and it’s so do-able. The older three are doing school, the younger two sit and play together so well❤
  • Too many people worry that they can't do it because they can't replicate the institution. Who said that was the goal? That's the advantage- that you don't have to. You don't have to hold your child back with the rest of a class, and you don't have to move through set material at a set pace that leaves them behind. I think it's so funny that the same people that say they want diversity of experience and opinion in the workplace expect those children to get that diversity from a homogenized education.

LOL, here I was thinking this title couldn't have been intended seriously. Nothing like some extra burdens tossed on overwhelmed moms.
  • I’m overwhelmed and unqualified and I’m a horrible homeschool mom. I have adhd, bipolar disorder and other health issues and I’ve truly set my girls back YEARS. I should have left them in school when they opened back up after the plague. They are 13 and 11 and their reading comprehension is low, I’m STILL struggling to get them to memorize their multiplication tables and we haven’t moved any further in math. Science and history are crap, spelling is literally like 3rd grade level. I had them tested this past year and they failed everything. It’s my fault. I can’t stay consistent and I don’t know how to teach. I love my girls and I love being home with them. I didn’t want them to go to school in this whole insane culture, but I’ve made them practically stupid. I couldn’t send them back to school now if I wanted to. I’m stuck, they’re stuck and it’s my fault.
