She’s the mysterious final Diamond we meet in the series, and is the supreme ruler of the Gem race. It’s time to talk about the oldest and most powerful Diamond in the verse. Let’s go through who she is, her powers, and what actual diamonds are like to see if they factored into her conception. I’m Kris Carr, and today I’m talking to you about White Diamond from Steven Universe.

Rebecca Sugar said White didn't have an actual sense of identity. She believed she is just the default pure white light and thought everyone else was her in a sense, which is why she wanted to remove flaws and thought she can forcefully override others. For her they were all the same. It seems like White is the first Gem and the creator of the rest (though we don't know who created HER), so maybe the Gemkind was originally created in her attempt to remove her own flaws? Her fragile sense of identity could be related to whatever's happening to her in the Future's opening.

7:09 "She's stronger, faster," and bigger too she's the first member of the diamond crew
  • I love how the Three Diamonds represent 3 types of abuse. Yellow is the physical, Blue is the emotional, and White is the psychological one. For me, Abuse of any kind is the third of the WORST CRIMES of humanity

I like how all of the Diamond's special aura powers seem to be connected to gemkind. Steven is the exception, but when isn't he? Blue and Yellow can have also physical effects when concentrating their auras, and White has probably no effect on any organic being, since she needs to hit a grmstone.

If every diamond were perfect we wouldn’t have stevens

I remember reading this very interesting comment about White from Rebecca Sugar. Something a long the lines of how she views herself as the default of all gems, and that all gems are a lesser distillation of her. So in a sense, before the events of Change Your Mind, White really had no sense of self.
  • White Diamond’s worst enemy has to be herself, imagine spending thousands of years in your own head believing everything you say is final, until one day you start doubting yourself. I thought her idea of perfect was twisted but I doubt she thought of herself as cruel or enjoyed the suffering of others, after Steven freed her from herself she seemed genuinely happy to turn over a new leaf and figure out what’s considered morally right and wrong. Redeemed White’s socially awkward behaviour is also her questioning whether what she’s doing is on the right track, and maybe some guilt as she probably regrets the harm she was causing for others. (I mainly guessed that from that awkward hug she gave in her final scene)

I know she was the scariest character on the show until she was “redeemed”.
  • I see how the most broken she is out of the diamonds, because she is a perfectionists that has high standards because she's worried that she isn't good enough for everyone else: even for the rules, people close to her and herself. I always see her being the worry of the diamonds.

I think all the Diamonds have some sort of mental health disorder. Blue clearly suffers from Depression, it's basically her main trait. Hell, her powers cause others to burst into tears, not unlike sudden drops in emotions. Yellow is suffering from anger issues, possibly Bipolar Disorder. Her tendency to suddenly flip from calm to unyielding rage is very much like a bipolar drop. White, as was mentioned in this video, likely has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. And finally Pink, or more specifically Steven. Steven has PTSD. Not surprisingly, considering he nearly died basically every other episode of the show. But I'd actually like to mention other gems, in particular, everybody's favourite dorito, Peridot. I personally believe Peridot may suffer from an attachment Disorder. I think this because of three distinct events. 1) Peri's dependency on her limb enhancers. When she reforms, she's extremely despondent to the loss of her limb enhancers, continuing to lock herself in Steven's bathroom even after she was given the okay to move around the house freely. 2) Her dependency on her tablet. She grew so attached to the device that when Amethyst tossed it towards the ocean, the mere thought of losing it caused Peridot to unlock her ferrokinesis. 3) Her attachment to Lapis and how depressed and angry she got whenever Lapis pushed her away (Seehere: the moment Lapis crushed Peri's tape recorder, another object of emotional importance to our dear lime flavoured dorito), and worse of all, when Lapis took the barn and straight up abandoned Peridot. (Edit: Removed a rather foolish and insensitive “connection” between Peridot’s attachment disorder and her AroAce identity)

I believe that White diamond was created with the planet when that solar system was formed, as white grew she learned her unique powers and found out she had 3 lights that made her. Which was Yellow Cyan Magenta which makes White. She possibly used those lights in her gem to create the other diamonds and also use her advanced technology in the gems she made and gave them a purpose and use the lights to create the diamond. Then those diamonds started making other gems while she was giving them a purpose The pink flaw was just a sign that she was connecting with pink, the same thing would happen with other diamonds too
