We need to have an honest conversation about smoking: The problem with smoking is that it is way more than just a physical addiction.
Smoking creates a temporary problem and offers an instant solution. Once your brain is used to nicotine, for up to 72 hours you are itchy,
nervous and stressed – but one drag and instantly, you feel really good. It also helps you focus and take breaks during work, while suppressing your appetite.
So why is it such a bad idea?

This video started so positive and slowly turned into nightmare, but that's what smoking is
  • @LofiGirl
0:27 Hey that’s me! The only things I light up are my grades though 😌
  • @im_dat_one_kid
"Smoking only solves a temporary problem, but it creates loads of permanent ones" Well said 👏👏
  • i am 17 - almost all of my friends smoke and vape. I have had the casual desire to quit for a few years now, but damn, has this lit a fire under my ass. It always annoyed me when anti-smoking PSA's act like smoking is like stabbing yourself in the hand, that theres absolutly no reason at all any one would ever do it. This is the only thing that's ever actually connected (to me at least) and made the point properly. thank you kurzgesagt team
  • @UltraLightGuzza
Please turn this into a series. I really want to see "Heroin is Awesome"
  • This is one of the better anti-smoking PSAs I've seen. No moralizing, no fear-mongering. Just facts.
  • @del6781
As someone who started young and quit about 7 years later, I'd love an equally in depth video that shows how the body bounces back physically. Like what things can change and/or get better
  • I’ve just quit smoking after 5 years as a smoker. 6 days without a single smoke. Hope i’ll stay on a right path. ☺️
  • @pr1metime.
I was a smoker for 17 years and I quit 2.5 years ago. Couldn't be more proud of myself.

I'm 44 started smoking cigarettes at 15, I'm always coughing up nonstop, this video dumbed it all down for me. Now I know exactly what I'm experiencing and why. I think I'm ready to make the move and quit! I'm gonna die soon if I don't. Quit drinking 8 years ago, I was an everyday beer drinker. If I can stop drinking and never look back, I can stop smoking too! Wish me luck people, I quit smoking at midnight! ***update below ** Update: almost 3 weeks without smoking. The habitual cravings are definitely getting farther apart than before. still getting them for sure ,but they definitely aren't as bad as the first week or so. My body is realizing and remembering that I no longer smoke, so basically when I get a sudden urge to I'm like " oh yea I no longer do that" and just continue with my day. Cravings only last a few seconds to a minute at most. So I immediately just try to continue with whatever I was already doing and move on,. Works like a charm. I still do push ups but not at every craving anymore. The physical addiction was gone in 72 hours. That was the worst of it. After that it was much easier. Chewing gum seems to help keep your mouth busy and helps for sure. My sense of taste and smell has improved considerably. I do not cough nearly as much as before. My lungs feel lighter if that makes any sense, and i honestly feel much better! Anyone who wants to join me on this journey of quitting, or would like to help, feel free to join my channel! I'm considering on sharing my journey of quitting drinking and smoking cigarettes with the world, in hopes that maybe I can possibly help someone else do the same! Thank you all for your support, you probably helped save my life!

The title of the video is genius. The chance that smokers will decide to watch this video is much higher than another video about “why smoking is harmful and how to quit smoking.”
  • @whogoes9838
You should do a part 2 on vaping. Here you mention how less and less young people are smoking and say things are getting better, but I think you fail to account for the extreme rise in teenagers vaping. Would love to see a video on that!
  • @SOFTWAREMASTER
"smoking only solves a temporary problem but creates permanent ones" This video should be shown in every school.
  • @kikito1003
I have never seen a piece of media that would convince me not to smoke more than this video.
  • @Clemetroll
Was smoking for 5 years. Stopped smoking after I watched that video. Been off any smoke for the last 29 days. Going strong
  • @caiolara1658
I quit vaping 3-4 days ago after about 6 years of on and off. This is the first time in a long time where my conviction to quit is stronger than any craving I have. This video absolutely CEMENTED my decision.
  • My greatest accomplishment was when I was around 8 years old, I told my grandma, who had been smoking since my dad was a kid, how dangerous it was and that I didn't want to lose her before I even graduate highschool. That got to her, and from that day forward she has never touched a cigarette. This week, she will be coming to my college graduation.
  • Lofi girl holding a cigarette is not something I would have ever expected from this channel
  • As someone still trying to quit thank you for being honest. People who don't smoke assume it should be so easy to quit yet fail to realize that there a multitude of factors that makes it hard to the point when you ask someone to go easy on you and not stress you out too much because you're trying to quit they sometimes immediately double down and become confrontational. I can't tell you how many times ive failed to quit simply because the people around me couldn't be bothered to be understanding and considerate about how much they are demanding and expecting of me.
