La Brea: The Creature Cut

Published 2024-06-23
All three seasons of NBC's "La Brea", but only when a creature is onscreen.
I threw this together just because I was curious about how much prehistoric life was in this show set in prehistoric times. The answer is not very much.

  • Okay, so this video kind of exploded. Can't say I was expecting it to take off like it did, but thanks for watching, and I hope you stick around for some upcoming videos I put actual effort into lmao. Anyways, to answer a couple of questions I've seen pop up a bunch: 1. The show is NBC's "La Brea". It ran for three seasons from 2021-2024, and can currently be viewed on Peacock. I would, however, strongly recommend against doing that because it is QUITE bad. If I gave any of you the impression that this show was worth watching, that was a mistake, and I deeply apologize for misleading you. 2. As I said in the description, this is ALL the creature action they've got. The rest of the show is about 20 or so hours of badly-written melodrama with some generic scifi garbage thrown in every once in a while for good measure. 3. I'm like 95% sure the only reason they were able to get away with just straight lifting dinos from Jurassic Park is because NBC is also owned by Universal. Can't get sued for plagiarism if you're technically stealing from yourself!

Some of these animations you are like "Wow these are great" others are more like "I cant believe their supervisor said yea thats good enough put it on the show"

I was thinking to myself “maybe this show is kinda outdated.. and old” And then I notice that this was made in 2024..
  • @OliverSierraW
so did the showrunners think "Lets put all the budget on the mammoth, screw everything else!"?
  • @alezot6141
I love how they wisely choose as main setting La Brea, one of the richest fossil sites from the Pleistocene that would have given PLENTY of choices when it comes to the fauna to feature... and then a few episodes in they decided that they are gonna show whatever creature they feel like anyway 😅

Ok but seeing a T. rex go toe to toe with a fucking jet is awesome

Best spinosaurus design I've ever seen paleo accurate and jp3 combination
  • @spinojo3070
both the rex and raptors looks like they rip straight out from Jurassic park.
  • They could have been a bit more imaginative with the dinosaurs, the T.rex is straight up from JP/W. The Spinosaurus too, but at least they changed it to reflect more modern reconstructions.

They cooked with the Wooly Mammoth and Rhino. But man, idk why they struggled with almost all the carnivores except Spinosaurus
  • I was thinking the cgi looked fairly convincing. Then the megalania (?) showed up. I don’t think the animators looked hard enough at how actual monitor lizards move.
  • @Draco84
The T. rex is literally just the Jurassic world one
  • 10:35 never watched the show, so I am just imagining that those Spinosaurs are fighting because each blames the other for misreading the tourist map and getting them stranded in the middle of nowhere while vacationing 🤪

3 seasons of taking place in the literal past… and we don’t even have a full episode worth of animal scenes.
  • @krimlefou7879
Of course they had to take the same T-rex, velociraptor, and pteranodons designs Jurassic Park used

I didn't know primeval had a baby with valley of gwanji
