We forget that freedom is the exception in human history. Freedom in the West has been a process that included Magna Carta, the English Civil War, the American and French Revolutions, the defeat of Nazi Germany and the collapse of Communism in Eastern Europe. Now we are in a time when freedom is being attacked again. The question is, do we still have the stamina to keep it, or will we be too complacent?

Accountability is distinct from crisis. We are taught to suspend our discernment and to deem ourselves as the litmus-test with which to measure our notions of democracy. It isn't just about being right, it is about the truth. Only 1/5th of our GNP is imputed on the token free-economy. The subsequent 4/5ths of GNP beyond comprehension without the federal monopoly of violence, and everything else this implies.
