Portland to enforce camping ban July 1, according to Mayor's Office

The city of Portland will begin enforcing a ban on homeless camps on July 1, according to Mayor Ted Wheeler’s office.

“Since the revised camping ordinance was unanimously approved by City Council on May 8, 2024, the city has engaged in an education campaign to inform the community of these changes,” said a spokesperson for the mayor’s office.

Under the new ordinance, unhoused people who refuse access to reasonable, alternate shelter may face up to a $100 fine and/or up to seven days in jail.
