SpaceX Just Won NASA Contract To Launch Next Telescope, Humiliated Blue Origin...
SpaceX is dominating the aerospace industry with its impressive capabilities, making it NASA's top choice for critical missions. In stark contrast, Blue Origin, a company known for its frequent lawsuits rather than substantial contributions, continues to lag behind. Despite constant legal battles with Blue Origin, including the recent Starship Florida project dispute, SpaceX continues to develop and secure valuable NASA contracts. Recently, SpaceX received another significant contract, rendering Blue Origin's attempts to hinder its progress almost laughable.
Let’s delve into these developments on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.
SpaceX Just Won NASA Contract To Launch Next Telescope, Humiliated Blue Origin...
In recent days, we have been discussing the $843 million contract NASA awarded to SpaceX to de-orbit the ISS. This contract marks one of SpaceX's biggest victories over Blue Origin in recent years.
But SpaceX didn't stop there. They landed another significant win over Blue Origin with the NASA telescope launch contract. On July 2, NASA selected SpaceX to provide launch services for the COSI (Compton Spectrometer and Imager) mission. This contract, valued at $69 million, covers launch services and other mission-related costs. The mission is scheduled for August 2027 and will be carried out by a SpaceX Falcon 9.
You might think the contract value isn't high, but its importance is immense.
SpaceX Just Won NASA Contract To Launch Next Telescope, Humiliated Blue Origin...NASA’s COSI mission is a collaboration between the University of California, Berkeley’s Space Sciences Laboratory, the University of California, San Diego, the Naval Research Laboratory, NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, and Northrop Grumman. This mission will delve into the origins of the Milky Way’s galactic positrons, uncover nucleosynthesis sites in our galaxy, study gamma-ray polarization, and identify counterparts to multi-messenger sources. The compact Compton telescope, with its enhanced sensitivity, spectral resolution, angular resolution, and sky coverage, promises groundbreaking science.

  • The US government has three clear choices for launching big satellites, Russia, China or SpaceX. I really don't think Sue Origin has much chance of removing SpaceX from the equation when they don't even have their own launch vehicle.
  • BO needs to concentrate on getting their rockets into orbit before complaining about anyone.
  • Sue Origin should’ve spent more money on engineers and not lawyers. For example, Elon talks about SpaceX success by producing more signal and less noise.
  • I keep saying that NASA needs to apologize to Elon for the results they get with space x cheaper reliable and way ahead of everyone else but after the get the stranded starliner crew id send Boeing the bill for the Uber

If Blue Origin doesn't get 'Glenn' (I refuse to call it New since it is already so old) functional soon, even Bezos may have to admit that it is a waste of his money and cut his losses. The whole "Gradatim Ferociter" logo with two turtles in it just shows that the company started with a mentality of slowness. SpaceX is the exact opposite and has predictably left BO in the proverbial dust and will continue to do so unless BO learns its lessons and changes its core philosophy. If they cannot do that, then bye-bye.
  • @yasnac7576
I have it on good authority but Blue origins suffered a engine bay fire in a test. Should look into it
  • @jonwatt678
I repeat what someone else said... "Winners do, Losers sue" Sounds about right... Musk said.. "Space is easy, Orbit is hard." I don't think bezo is gonna get there...
  • How can Blue Origin bid on sending things into orbit when they don't have a rocket that do so??
  • It’ll be awesome to see how Starbase fares against the wrath of Hurricane Beryl!
  • @chilzone966
Anything less than a $Billion dollars Bezos doesn't want it. They have to Pay to get the contract & Buy time.
  • @0x0404
Ah August 2027, so blue origin MIGHT have a working orbital rocket by then. But they won’t have over a decade of reliability by then.
  • Now everyone can see why Jeff Bozo and ULA is frivolously suing SpaceX.
