My wife and daughter were both airlifted from a crash we were in back in July 2018. The cost was $27,000 for my wife and $2,400 for my daughter. I honestly believe that there was a billing error for my daughter. In any event our auto insurance covered the cost. I have no doubt that the time saved vs ground transport is the reason they are both still here.

Why so many dislikes? :( God bless these men and women who work as the first responders. I used to be a fireman myself in this rural community in southern Idaho in the United States. We would respond to traffic accidents, and on occasion we would also have to set up landing zones for Life Flight. We also trained with them on several occasions, and were shown how the helicopters work and their full setup of medical supplies, etc. they work very long hours sometimes, and have a dedication to their community unlike most. They definitely deserve our respect and admiration.
  • For anyone reading this comment, almost all medivac services offer memberships for a minimal amount, like $75 per year to cover the cost in full of any emergency medivac if you end up needing one in that calendar year. Medivac flights can exceed $30,000 in many cases and often times insurance wont cover the cost. These flights can quickly bankrupt you.

Life Flight's founder, Dr. James H. "Red" Duke, Jr., was the medical director for Life Flight from its inception until his death August 25, 2015. To date, Life Flight has flown more than 120,000 patient missions. If you get time, read the story about Dr. Red Duke, very interesting man.

Surprised to see the eurocopter ec135 so much for these
  • In my town hospital they call life flight if no ground transport to a bigger hospital is available even if there not critical
  • @darrendoyle568
We don’t have a lot of air lifts where I live cause there are 2 good trauma centers in both of my local hospitals so usually these days if the helicopter has to be called it’s for a child that’s needs to be flouting the children’s hospital in LA

Is ‘life flight’ an air ambulance service?

I feel so sorry for the patient. They probably had no say in the helicopter transport, and now are stuck with a bill for over $50,000 that they cannot pay. EDIT: The only states that it is more cost effective to get the helicopter, are Maryland, New Jersey, and possibly Delaware. Those states have a state run life flight program with their state police helicopters, that is paid for by license plate fees. Free when you need it. The hospital may charge a helocopter off load fee, but that is pennies compared to elsewhere.
