Hi humans! Omar here. Today we're taking things in a little different direction from our normal videos. Both Matt and I are going to be sharing our coming out stories with you this week & next. Growing up in a strict Muslim household and coming to terms with my sexuality is something that I know so many of you have dealt with or are currently dealing with. I hope that my story can give you some hope & inspiration, where you might see none ❤

xoxo, Omar

As a British South Asian, I remember occasional rumours of people who had taken their own lives and how this was swept under the carpet by families and communities. I always suspected this was because they had been forced to live double lives which they could see no end to, and no way out of. This 10 minute video will give young Asian LGBTQ+ so much strength and hope. Thank you 🌈

I love the little nervous energy in the beginning. Thanks for sharing with us Omar.

The double life which omar mentioned is so relatable , i feel so claustrophobic , because i cannot represent myself who i am properly to people , but i cant fully express it too because i am too scared what if the other person is homophobic or what if i was socially excluded everywhere ,

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s always fascinating to hear everyone’s coming out story, especially when a particular religion or culture is involved. I can relate but with fundamental Christianity. I’m glad to hear that you and your mom have continued to work through it even though she does not 100% understand.
  • This was so real, raw and lovely. Could listen to you all day. Big hug, so proud of you even though I don’t know you like that 💕
  • Watched Matt's video too!! Love both of your stories! Coming from very religious backgrounds just adds a whole extra layer in the coming out process in an already sometimes volatile environment. I have a very similar story, only I came out later at 38 and had married a woman and had 3 children by this time. I couldn't handle the pressure of knowing I was 100% gay. I did what was "expected" of me from my family and my religious community and in the process affected the lives of my 3 beautiful children and now ex wife. It was some very dark days! But thanks for sharing your story. It's so encouraging to hear others tell their story and so important for younger people who don't have any other outlet! Peace and love to you and Matt!

Blessings to you Omar, by sharing your story you can inspire others to live their truth and be themselves. Coming out is never easy and it always has consequences but for those of us who choose to take that road, no matter how hard the journey, in the end it is worth it. 🙏😘

Hello Omar, Thank You for posting your coming out story, I know from what I've read and seen on Social Media that to be Gay in a Muslim community can be very dangerous for Gay Muslims and I am so glad that you are in a safe and Loving relationship with Matt. I think it was very brave of you to post your video and I hope it gets a lot of views and a load of good comments. I LOVE the "Matt and Omar" channel and look forward to your vids. Lots of LOVE to you both from John in the UK.
  • Wow you're so brave. Love to hear your coming out story, omar🐣🐣

BABE 💙 thank you for sharing your story first of all. Not a lot of us can gather up this courage to come out to our Muslim family and community. I just pray and wish the best for you man. I'm so happy for you. Please don't ever pay attention to what these homophobic hypocrites say.. being LGBTQ+ is not even a choice.. it's as natural as being straight. Much love to you.

Shukriya bohot bohot Omar... this was so organic. Havent come out to my Pakistani Muslim parents yet and I can relate to the majority of thr scenarios you talked about. That looooong conversation you had with your mother and brother, for example. I can see so many things coming and I still dont know when, where and how to start. Its hard... thanks for this video🤗.

Matt and Omar; Just viewed both your c.o. vids and I am overwhelmed by your courage and intelligence; But how did you meet each other; Guess I will continue viewing. I am adult man in New York City and can only relate because there are many many gays of all ages in the city and many are friends so I pass on encouragement. You are are not alone. Both your parent must expand their minds to avoid losing their children eventually; you will become much more important to them as time passes and that is all for the better. Edward

Thanks for sharing. You’re such a good story teller. Talk to us about your dad, brother, sister, grandparents, aunts & uncles, and cousins, friends of the family, etc ... in another posting ; )

Awesome video. My parents are old and want me to marry a girl. So I’ve come out to them but they won’t accept me, ever. I liked your story because you talk about it as an ongoing thing which is what it will be for me.
