  • I agree what that guy said at the meat of the matter. Star Wars is broken because not only did they ruin Luke, they ruined the Original Trilogy. Everything the heroes fought for in Episodes 4-6 was all undone....off screen. Then they gave us Episodes 7-9 were the new Heroes had to save everything the "proper way". Cause apparently they didnt do it right the first time. And this can never be fixed because Carrie Fisher is gone (RIP). So yeah, the "narrative" is broken beyond repair.

Luke Skywalker was the embodiment of hope. EU did his character much more justice. Disney utterly bastardized him by a landslide. No if's, no buts, nothing.

Fixing Luke is the only way I could ever get back on board with Disney Star Wars. No matter how cool or great a show or movie turns out, the moment will be quickly ruined when I remember Jake.

The only way to fix Star Wars is to wrest it from Disney's grubby hands.

Star Wars is the story of Anakin and therefore Luke. Doing his character the way they did stunted an entire era of content. U can have great Star Wars outside of the skywalkers. But it’s fair to point out that a blemish will forever be there if the “skywalkers” aren’t given their flowers. I do need some content in new eras tho

As long as all roads lead to the sequels there is really no reason to care about anything they make
  • Hold on hold on. Luke skywalkers kicking butt 2 hours straight for a whole trilogy. Im down 😅

Actually, the only way to fix the franchise is to hire people who actually are fans of Star Wars, as well as competent writers
  • There is no “fixing” Star Wars beyond a complete decannonization of all Disney Content (with the exception of Andor and maybe Rogue One) and a public apology for the way things have been handled the past decade

Luke Skywalker is dead. Disney killed him in The Last Jedi.

I still believe Solo failed because the people who would like it were infuriated or turned off by TLJ, which was only a few months before. Bad experience in one film drives you away from others, the opposite of tent pole films.

We need the Sequels retconned, a new timeline where Luke is the hero he was in Legends... preferably where he becomes the father and husband his father failed to be too. As that is the narrative purpose of his story, overcoming his fathers flaws that he inherited. They should also just accept that Mara Jade is basically a perfect foil and soul mate to him too. As she might not be as powerful as him, but she is strong in the force and trains her butt off so she can mostly keep up with him. He's idealistic but loves her pragmatism, she's pragmatic but loves his idealism. They truly do complete each other but had a long journey to falling in love, which gives them a ton of time to build up their relationship. Beyond that, she just brings something different to the storyline not seen in any Star Wars film previously, a slowburn love story between two good people and force sensitives (one previously mind controlled) on opposite sides in the original trilogy. Lucas maynot like her character (her name is only 2 letters different than his ex-wife who took half his money Mara vs Marcia), but she absolutely brings something different than any of the other trilogies... and lets face it, it has crossover appeal to Reylo fans (but is far better written), so they might be woed back. Then EU fans have just been dying to see them in live action for 25 years now. This is ehat the vast majority of the biggest spending fans of the franchise want. Without them being woed back with this, theyre not bringing their dollars or their friends/family back into theaters. Without righting the ship, meaning the Skywalker storyline, not many are going to trust them with different eras. Thats basically just going Mass Effect Andromeda on us after messing up Mass Effect 3. Any mistakes Andromeda made was doomed to set fans against them... without a perfect kickoff to a new era, the strategy of going to a new era, is basically doomed as to fans it will just be the boy who cried wolf swearing this next film is great too. It will have to be so good the few who try it all nearly unanimously shout its praises into the heavens and then everyone flocking to see it too. There's a saying in western militaries. If you break it, you fix it. Meaning you don't just destroy another country then leave it's citizens in a ruined nation. You must help them rebuild like America did after WW2 with Europe and Japan. The current franchise is basically a ruined city, without rebuilding the legacy they destroyed why would anyone trust Lucasfilm again? Running to a new era just shows fans they cannot admit they messed up, and if they can't admit that how can the next era be any good. Especially since they already tried this strategy with the High Republic, and The Acolyte basically sank like the Titanic. Yes, there's an inherent risk of not doing the EU perfect... but its better than basically taking it out back and murdering it like they previously did. Look tons of EU fans ended up loving TCW even though it retconned a lot of the EU, but overall it gained more fans to the franchise than it lost them. Tons of EU fans love both the EU and TCW and accept theyre not the same. So i feel you're only talking about a worse case where they utterly blow the EU adaptation/EU inspired new stories. While in contrast the Sequels had the opposite effect, they lost more than they gained. It had a decade to gain fans back and failed, its as simple as that. Their fans will just have to accept reality, just like EU fans had to accept the EU was going away while Disney tried something new. They can always rewatch the Sequels, its not like Disney will knock on their door and demand their dvds back.

It’s my biggest problem. Any world now is one where the sequels happened and that is a cloud hanging over everything. It’s like using a mirror with a crack in the corner- you can keep staring at the mirror and ignoring the damage but it’s still there - the mirror is still broken. So, a universe, a 1000 years in the future is just looking at a piece of a mirror a long way from the crack - crack’s still there.

You can't build a pyramid out of mud. You can't build a Spiderman universe without Spiderman. You can't make an X-men world without Wolverine. You can't get Justice League right without Superman. You can't make a Star Wars universe without the Skywalkers. You have to have a solid foundation to build onto and Kathleen burned hers to the ground.
  • @just_delightful
Disney Star Wars thought Han Solo was the heart of Star Wars. They were wrong. I agree with both of you. Star wars can't move on unless Luke Skywalker is fixed, but they also need to move past Luke Skywalker.
  • @bw8301
    Luke Skywalker is Star Wars.
  • @TheFlyingDogFish
Sequels need to be decanonized or simply ignored like they never happened.
  • @sonnywoods6846
He is right they need to fix Luke Skywalker, Luke is Star Wars. Fix Luke Skywalker make him the hero that rebuild the Jedi Order, Give him a family so that the Skywalker name can continue. Get rid of this Rey Skywalker BS because she is a Palpatine. Then u can move 1000 years into the future. No one is going to respect or watch Star Wars until you repair Luke Skywalker and get rid of that BS in The Last Jedi. All they have to say is that the thing that disappeared was a Force Projection, and the real Luke Skywalker is still alive and in the galaxy somewhere. MAke a movie that tells us where he is, that he was off fighting a bigger threat to the galaxy than Snoke, Palpatine clone or the First Order. Luke was in hiding and had put FOrce Projections all over the galaxy to throw this new threat off and protect his family from it by leading them away from his wife, kids or even grandkids. Keyloy Snoke the 1st Order and Palpatine were all just pawn being manipulated by the real threat. Since Snoke and Palpatine were clones this person could be the real reason Palpatine returned vs that dumb crap they put in the movie You can even use this to explain why Luke was so Grumpy and different in the last Jedi vs how The Force Projection was acting in the Rise of Skywalker. The real Luke was in an area of the galaxy. Here, the Dark Side of the force was really strong, and it was affecting the force Projections he put around the galaxy. After he overcame and defeated the Threat, his Force Projections went back to normal because the Dark side of the force was no longer affecting him. Simple This All Powerful Dark Threat can be the reason why Luke Attacked Ben, or make it so that Luke didn't attack Ben But what he saw was an illusion or Luke attacking him. This mental attack on Ben is what tipped him off on the new threat/disturbance in the force. You can even have Luke Explore the mystery of the Whills in this movie. I know to pure Star Wars fans what I am saying might be stupid but if I Can come up with this surely Professional Writers can come up with something better. If they really wanted to they can Fix Luke Skywalker and Star Wars. Like everyone else, I don't know that much about Star Wars, so I don't even know if the Dark Side can affect him like this. But I am an original Trilogy fan. Making them all Force Projections affected by an all-powerful Dark Side user or even an area could explain why he was so different in the 2 movies.

Cant believe this is a video post sequels. It shows how much Disney objectively damaged the perception & its narrative of the brand. They’ve put themselves in a corner where they limit their own opportunities. Lucasfilm needs a huge turnaround, there is no strong leadership here, if KK cant admit her faults then the employees she chooses are just like her.

The thing I’m taking away from this is that you can’t please everybody! 😂
