Minecraft using all 16 cores while loading world

The internet has said for years that Minecraft uses a single core. This appears to be true for my machine after the game has fully loaded my world. But it slams all 16 cores pretty hard at the beginning of world load. This clip loads into a nether tunnel, so there is nothing to see except for Afterburner statistics.
