Pokemon Lunatic Crystal v1.6 - Team Rocket Archer (Celadon City)

Published 2024-04-29
As the player makes their way into Celadon City and enters the Celadon Mansion, they encounter a familiar face.

Since Team Rocket was disbanded Archer has been spending his days here, in the city that was formerly home to Team Rocket's Hideout.

He is quite bitter about the defeat in Goldenrod and will challenge you to a battle when spoken to, so he is an optional boss that you can face.

Archer's Team has changed quite a bit since the fight in the Radio Tower, he now has Rhydon, Feraligatr and Crobat instead of Sneasel, Gyarados and Heracross.

Here is his team, held items and movesets:

- Porygon2 (Leftovers): Thunder Wave, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Recover
- Crobat (Scope Lens): Razor Wind, Giga Drain, Shadow Ball, Confuse Ray
- Alakazam (Twistedspoon): Thunderpunch, Psychic, Fire Punch, Thunder Wave
- Rhydon (Quick Claw): Curse, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Megahorn
- Feraligatr (Focus Band): Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Crunch, Rock Slide
- Houndoom (Charcoal): Sunny Day, Crunch, Flamethrower, Solarbeam

Porygon2 has an improved moveset, it will still try to paralyze you and use Recover and held Leftovers to heal itself and BoltBeam is always threatening as an offensive combination.

Alakazam is now more offensive, it has two elemental punches, Psychic, but also has Thunder Wave to inflict status.

Crobat can be very frustrating with Confuse Ray so countering it with a held Berry is a good idea, it also has solid coverage with Shadow Ball and Giga Drain to hit Rock and Psychic types for big damage. Scope Lens boosted Razor Wind is highly likely to crit.

Rhydon can either be a breeze or a nightmare, with a massive attack stat, 100 Power STAB Moves and amazing coverage in Megahorn it can inflict massive damage or try to set up with Curse. The best way would be to hit it for 4x damage with a Grass or a Water type that can endure one hit just in case.

Feraligatr can randomly survive lethal attacks with Focus Band and hit back with STAB Crunch and Hydro Pump, as well as having Ice Beam for Grass types. Still it has no super effective moves against Electric types so they should be able to deal with it barring a crit.

Houndoom is the same as ever, it will set up sun to boost damage and weaken Water moves and it can hit back hard against Water, Ground and Rock types with Solarbeam. It doesn't have great options against Fire types however, so as long as you're not weak to Crunch you should be able to deal with it using super effective moves.

Archer has a pretty strong team and can be scary with bad RNG, but he isn't the hardest of opponents at this point in the game, it's got to be said.

Oh and the final bit about Giovanni... he wasn't bluffing, Giovanni CAN be found and battled in Tohjo Falls after you defeat Red for the first time.

Also, once you beat Archer here you can talk to him and rematch him as many times as you want. Once you beat Red his levels will be much higher and the order of the team and the movesets will slightly change, but the Pokemon you see here will still be used in every battle against Archer.

Would have loved to see Porygon2 in its element. What is its move set?

At what level does Haunter evolves into Gengar in this games and also is Houndoom still available in Kanto just like in vanilla Crystal?
