there will never be another defense like this because of the new rules for player safety, for better or worse

I’m 60 years old and I’ve been watching football since I was a little kid and I can guarantee you that the ‘85 Bears had the best defense of my lifetime, no doubt about it. Physical, ferocious, intimidating, and smart. They had the ability to take games over at will.

Walter Peyton never looked for the sideline like Franco Harris did, he would aim straight for you. Dude could run like the wind, he had WR hands, he was a tremendous blocker and he could throw too. What a talent.

I am so jealous of people who got to watch this gladiatorial era of the NFL as it happened. The rest of us born after 1985 just see the highlights in slow-motion and it doesn't show how fast and hard the game was played at this time. Any of the offenses that could go toe to toe with the 85 Bears, the 86 Giants, 87 Redskins etc would have a cakewalk in today's game.
  • The defense was so legendary , history forgot that they had the 5th ranked offense in the league too
  • Seeing some of those hits in real time instead of slowmo…omg. They straight up killed people.

Man, if I had to go back, and see any team in my life, it would be the 85 bears. What a team!! Bear down!!

The reason I as an Englishman fell in love with American football. The Chicago Bears.
  • When they went to the SuperBowl and WON, I cried with GREAT tears of joy! I've been a Chicago Bears fan since I was 5yrs. old. Dick Butkus was my favorite player back then.

Consider this when it comes to the 1985 Bears and their postseason run: Their defense scored more points during those three games than the three opposing teams combined. No other team in NFL history can say that.

Jim McMahon holds the NFL record for consecutive winning starts. Between 1984-1987 Jim was 25-0 as a starter.

I miss Walter Payton...as many accolades as he has received somehow I still think he is underrated. Best all-around back ever...could do it all. Plus a great human...he just got it.

No need to highlight Perry when he’s in the backfield . . . i SEE him.

Greatest team that has EVER been assembled!!!! How this team only won 1 Super Bowl blows my mind. It was truly MAGIC that one year though, MAGIC!!!!!!
  • @ricardobjj24
One of my favorite teams to watch play. Nothing like watching a great defense play
  • @jackd7360
Imagine having the bears defense in fantasy that year
  • @RJon2006
As a Packers fan…this was cool to watch. Greatest D of all time. Unbelievable.
  • @sports3117
Jim McMahon is a rather solid quarterback during that time with the bears
